SHESGOLD - broke passing the 60m and continued in a gallop to the finishing line before locking sulky wheels with ALDEBARAN PIPPI. Stewards lodged a protest against 2nd placing being awarded to this runner under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging the mare had broken in excess of 50m inside the final 200m. After viewing the replays Driver T Mitchell did not contest the protest and SHESGOLD was disqualified by Stewards.

SHESGOLD - lay in and contacted a track marker passing the 1800m and again near the 1750m with a track marker being dislodged. Driver T Mitchell was issued a warning for contacting a track marker near the 200m when activating gear. When questioned regarding the performance Mr Mitchell advised the filly had raced keenly during the running but had disappointed over the final stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.

Broke on a further occasion shortly after losing all chance and was retired from the event. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion.

FLYING SCOTSMAN - over-raced for a distance passing the 2000m when being restrained to take a trail. Continued to over-race before commencing to weaken from the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing performance.

IT AIN'T ME BABE - pre-raced warmed. Raced wide early. Stewards investigated an incident near the 2000m where IT AIN'T ME BABE was obliged to race three wide briefly when racing to the outside of BANGKOK BETTY. It was established that CON GRAZIA LOVE had sufficient room to improve to the inside of BANGKOK BETTY which meant that Driver J Abernethy had little option other than to follow MELSADELE when that runner shifted out into the running line which resulted in IT AIN'T ME BABE being caught three wide briefly. Given the circumstances no further action was deemed necessary.

Driver T Macfarlane admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly when shifting inwards entering the first turn when not sufficiently clear resulting in LUBY LILL being checked and breaking losing ground. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Macfarlane's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing tonight up to and including 26 January 2024 (2 days).
