It was established that Driver S Abernethy (EYRE I WILL) had commenced his outward movement prior to SANINARMBRO, which was improving wider on the track, reaching his sulky wheel and no further action was deemed necessary. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from all parties, the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the protest.

Broke near the 500m and was taken down inside the marker line to clear trailing runners before settling near the 250m. Stewards lodged a protest against this runner's 4th placing under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging the gelding had broken in excess of 150m. Connections did not contest the protest and LIAISON was disqualified by Stewards. The bandage on the near hind came adrift early in the run home possibly as a result of contacting track markers with no action being taken.

When questioned regarding his decision not to shift out to lead up the running line near the 1200m prior to being covered by LIAISON, Driver P Ferguson stated that the mare had been performing well when driven with cover and saved for one final run so he felt it was his best option to remain on the marker line rather than race without cover. He further explained that after initially looking to shift outwards near the 400m he had steadied and shifted down to follow HALBERG however that runner was losing ground so he shifted back to the outside to attempt to secure clear running which did not eventuate for some distance. Stewards noted Mr Ferguson's comments.

HILLBILLY BLUES - Driver T Herlihy was questioned regarding the manner in which he shifted ground entering the first turn when improving away from the marker line which resulted in BRIENNE appearing to race wider on the track briefly. Mr Herlihy stated that he felt that he had commenced his outward shift prior to BRIENNE reaching the parked position and after viewing the replays Stewards took the matter no further on this occasion. Lay out throughout the run home despite the efforts of Mr Herlihy.

When questioned regarding his decision not to shift out from a position three back on the markers near the 1300m prior to being covered by KEEP IT KLASSY Driver T Herlihy stated that he elected not to shift out at this stage as his runner was not handling the bends as he would have liked and felt that the gelding would have been left without cover for the remainder as the lead, which was being held by MAZEPPA, would not have been available.

Driver M McKendry admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip on one occasion free of the rein on the final turn. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr McKendry's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing tonight up to and including 27 January 2025 (3 days).

CON GRAZIA LOVE - contacted the sulky wheel of FEARLESS near the 300m after there was an easing of the pace which resulted in the tyre being punctured and coming off the rim. A protest was lodged under Rule 869A(2) by connections of FEARLESS placed 4th against 3rd placing being awarded to CON GRAZIA LOVE (M McKendry) on the grounds of alleged interference in this incident. After hearing the relative evidence and viewing the replays the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the protest. Stewards took no action against Driver M McKendry in this incident due to the easing of the pace simultaneously to his move outwards.

After hearing from Mr Butcher and viewing the films Stewards were satisfied FORGIVENESS (B Butt) had commenced his shift outwards prior to WALKINONSUNSHINE reaching his sulky wheel and that Mr Butcher had elected to take his runner forward and had raced wide thereafter. Weakened passing the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.

Mr Mitchell reported that he was unable to activate the sliding blinds due to the cord becoming entangled.
