Race 1   TAVERN HAREWOOD (AMATEUR DRIVERS) MOBILE PACE
EJA PATRON - weakened final bend.
OPAWA MACH - held up final bend. Again held up for clear racing room early in the run home. Briefly locked wheels with ALLANDALE approaching the 150 metres. Stewards questioned driver N Chalmers regarding his tactics in the early stages of the home straight when electing to shift outwards instead of attempting an inside run. After considering the explanation of Mr Chalmers, Stewards adjourned the matter for further consideration.
NIGHT LIGHTS - broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
ALLANDALE - briefly locked wheels with OPAWA MACH approaching the 150 metres.
FUN IN THE DARK - broke in the score up losing considerable ground. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts.
TROMPEUR - held up final bend.
GET THE RHYTHM - briefly hampered in the early stages of the score up and was back slightly at the start.
Trainer W Stapleton advised Stewards on 9 May that EJA PATRON has been treated for dehydration since last racing.
Race 2   MORE FM TROT
COSMIC SUN - held up final bend.
RILEY IDOL - trotted roughly final bend. Continued to trot roughly in the home straight and had difficulty obtaining clear racing room.
NEVER MIND - began awkwardly.
SUNRISE SPUR - held up final bend and early stages of the run home.
KEN'S DREAM - raced wide middle stages. Weakened near the 700 metres. Driver L Dobbs will be spoken to regarding the manner he drove on the final bend.
EYRE I GO - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight and struck a pylon near the 40 metres.
MAJESTIC SUNSET - shifted into the passing lane in the run home denying full access to the trailing EYRE I GO. Stewards lodged a protest against 2nd placing being awarded to MAJESTIC SUNSET (T Chmiel) alleging interference to EYRE I GO (M Jones) placed 5th. After viewing the films and hearing evidence from Stewards and both drivers, the JCA dismissed the protest. Driver T Chmiel admitted an associated charge under Rule 869(4) and the Passing Lane Regulations in that he failed to allow full access to the passing lane for trailing runners with the JCA imposing a fine of $300.
QUAESTOR - raced four wide for a distance passing the 1400 metres. Stewards investigated a perceived breach of the Push Out Rule near the 1400 metres. After viewing the replays it was established that KEN'S DREAM had shifted outwards prior to QUAESTOR reaching its sulky wheel and no further action was deemed necessary. Broke near the 1100 metres.
KAPAI - trotted roughly racing into the first bend and had to be steadied. Continued to trot roughly through the middle stages. Driver D Butt was warned for using his whip when out of contention.
LANE'S ACE - broke at the start.
MDINA - fractious prior to the start causing a delay. A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Back from the unruly position at the start. Over-raced middle stages. Driver C Butt admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of the Whip Regulations. After hearing submissions on penalty, the JCA suspended Mr Butt's Horseman's Licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 10 May 2019 (3 days).
Driver L Dobbs (KEN'S DREAM) was warned for using his whip when out of contention.
Race 3   TIMARU SOUTH COSMOPOLITAN CLUB (JUNIOR DRIVERS) MOBILE PACE
There was a delay to the start of this race due to the protest in the previous race.
SWEET LORESS - held up rounding the final bend and throughout the home straight.
DIVINIA BELLEZZA - held up leaving the final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
NAIYA FRANCO - broke in the score up losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
SWEET MARY - locked sulky stays briefly with CHITURA which hung inwards near the 600 metres.
BE MINE TONIGHT - raced wide in the early stages. Weakened leaving the final bend.
CHITURA - hung inwards near the 600 metres and briefly locked sulky stays with SWEET MARY. The gaiting strap broke during the running. This gear was inspected and found to be in previously satisfactory condition.
Race 4   THE MAYFIELD LIONS DON INGOLD MEMORIAL PACE
GOTTA FUTURE - fractious prior to the start.
ART'S DASH - broke at the start.
DODGETHEBULLET - paced roughly racing into the first bend. Again paced roughly for a distance passing the 1300 metres.
I'M JIMMY JAMES - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Fractious prior to the start. Broke briefly at the start. Driver K Butt reported the gelding had hung outwards through the early stages when racing on the marker line causing her some difficulty.
DODGE PHOENIX - hung inwards through the middle stages. Paced roughly final bend when weakening.
UPTOWN LADY - raced wide early stages.
STAR REACTOR - paced roughly racing into the first bend.
POSSENTE CAVALLO - cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
Race 5   NIGHT 'n DAY PARK HANDICAP PACE
PATS DRAGON - held up final bend.
GABBY'S STAR - began awkwardly. Held up final bend and early stages of the home straight.
GIMMEFIVEMINUTESMORE - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts. Over-raced middle stages. Weakened from the 500 metres.
Race 6   EQUINE VETERINARY SERVICES TROT
DON'T ROCK THE BOAT - broke racing into the first bend.
DON'T LOOK BACK - broke shortly after the start.
RED HARBOUR - broke at the start. Authorisation of 3rd placing was withheld until it was confirmed the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations in the early stages.
FOREVERMAN - weakened from the 700 metres. Trainer J Clementson advised the gelding will no longer be persevered with as a racing proposition from his stable.
DIANA HARBOUR - raced wide early stages.
GRAND PRINCESS - held up final bend.
EASY PICKINGS - raced wide early stages.
REBEL KIBBYBONES - raced wide early stages. Trotted roughly and weakened final bend.
MICHELLE - weakened leaving the final bend. When questioned regarding the performance, driver S Tomlinson advised the mare had been striking herself and she was disappointed with the effort.
Race 7   MOTHER'S DAY 12TH MAY AT TIMARU PACE
BOMBSHELL - held up late in the run home.
DELIGHT OF TEXAS - held up on the final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
DIAMOND SHADOW - broke at the start losing all chance. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts. Weakened from the 600 metres.
SHOTGUN WEDDING - raced wide early stages.
INVISIBLE GIRL - broke at the start. Hung inwards in the home straight.
OUT OF THE SHADOWS - driver S Ottley was warned for the manner she drove near the 200 metres when shifting inwards striking a track marker.
LAST ONE GRIN - raced wide early stages.
KWIK SPORT - driver B Zampese was warned for striking track markers leaving the final bend. Paced roughly near the 200 metres.
VICTOR TANGO - paced roughly in the middle stages. Lay outwards in the home straight.
THUNDERFROMTHETHRONE - broke at the start. Paced roughly final bend. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver C Thornley reported the gelding had performed to his expectations.
MAKASAR BOY - had to be steadied near the 150 metres when briefly placed in restricted room.
Race 8   LION BEVERAGES HANDICAP TROT
GORILLA PLAYBOY - lay inwards late in the run home and became awkwardly placed close to the sulky wheel of CLIFDEN CLOWERS.
MARIA TSARINA - lay inwards throughout the run home. Driver D Butt defended a breach of Rule 869(5) which alleged he half carted between the 850 metres and the 550 metres. After viewing the films and hearing evidence, the JCA found the charge proved and imposed a fine of $250.
ONE OVER DA STARS - broke at the start. Broke again passing the 200 metres. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial. The connections advised the mare will be retired from racing.
BEYOND THE HORIZON - held up final bend.
LOVEY DOVEY MOMENT - fractious prior to the start. Reared as the start was effected losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Broke near the 2100 metres and again near the 1700 metres losing all chance.
CLIFDEN CLOWERS - held up final bend.
MISSIE CASTLETON - cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
MEDUSA - held up final bend. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 200 metres.
Race 9   LASER ELECTRICAL TIMARU MOBILE PACE
TACTICAL CHANGE - hung outwards leaving the final bend when weakening.
BICTON - hampered near the 350 metres.
CRANBOURNE - out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the colt.
MILLWOOD BONNIE - raced wide early stages. Driver M Anderson reported he sustained a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
JEREMY WELLS - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after going down in the float en route to the course. This examination revealed no abnormalities and the gelding was cleared to start.
MONGOLIAN MACHETE - held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
HILARIOUS PRINCE - underwent and passed a pre-race veterinary examination after another horse went down in the float en route to the course. Held up final bend. Hampered near the 350 metres.
BEAUDIENE OVERTAKE - held up final bend.
LILBITBETTOR - broke late in the score up losing considerable ground. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts.
STINGER LINDENNY - over-raced rounding the first bend and broke near the 1500 metres after striking the sulky wheel of MILLWOOD BONNIE despite the efforts of driver J Dunn to restrain. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
Race 10   NEVELE R STUD MOBILE PACE
GOTTAGETTABEER - held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
FANCY - hung inwards racing into the first bend and had to be steadied.
TAKE A BET - held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
JINGLE JINGLE - weakened final bend.
MELISHKA - late scratching at 9.01am on veterinary advice. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
SZYBKA LANE - hung outwards in the score up and was back slightly at the start.
SMOOTH DEBATE - raced wide early stages. Held up final bend.
MARLEE - back slightly at the start. Broke in the early stages. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly. Gave ground from the 500 metres. Driver J Hay was warned for using his whip when out of contention. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer J Hay advised he will have blood tests taken in the coming days and Stewards will follow up with the results. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
Trainer J Hay advised Stewards on 26 May that MARLEE will no longer race from his stable.
Race 11   BROSNAN TRANSPORT PASSING LANE MOBILE PACE
LOCKED OUT OF HEAVEN - held up final bend.
AWAYOVERNIGHT - raced wide early stages. Held up final bend.
BILLIE JEAN - underwent and passed a pre-race veterinary examination after another horse went down in the float en route to the course. Raced wide early stages. Checked and broke near the 650 metres.
TOM RULE - raced wide early stages. Held up final bend.
FATHERDANTHERODEOMAN - paced roughly and hung inwards in the score up and was back slightly at the start. Raced wide early stages.
PILCH - broke in the early stages of the score up and was back a length at the start. A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
RUBY TUES BAY - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Shifted inwards near the 650 metres checking BILLIE JEAN (S Ottley) which broke. Junior driver K Tomlinson (assisted by M Williamson) defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) which alleged she drove carelessly in this incident. After viewing the films and hearing evidence, the JCA found the charge proved and Miss Tomlinson's Junior Horsewoman's Licence was suspended from the conclusion of racing on 27 April 2019 up to and including 6 May 2019 (4 days).
JUST WONDERING - back slightly at the start despite the efforts of driver J Hay.
