Stewards made inquiries with J Dunn as representative of the R & J Dunn stable regarding information received that SUTTLE had undergone a procedure which had not been notified in accordance with the Notifiable Surgeries and Procedures Regulations.
Mr Dunn confirmed that the filly had undergone a notifiable procedure with R & J Dunn subsequently charged under HRNZ Rule 305(d) for failing to notify, as soon as practicable, of a surgery or procedure listed in the Notifiable Surgeries and Procedures Regulations. The charge was admitted, and at a hearing held before the first race the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $200.

J Morrison advised Stewards he was unwell and was unable to attend tonight's meeting and was replaced on his drive as per the summary below. Mr Morrison is required to supply a medical clearance prior to resuming driving.

Race 3   DARFIELD ITM MOBILE PACE
MAJOR LAZARUS - hampered by a weakening runner final bend. Held up early in the run home. Driver B Hope reported a sulky tyre deflated during the running.
ROSA SHARD - lay inwards when weakening rounding the final bend and struck a track marker hampering trailing runners. When questioned regarding the performance co-trainer H Cullen advised he was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery.
ITZ KURTUS MAXIMUS - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver S Ottley. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Over-raced middle stages causing driver S Ottley some difficulty. Raced wide from the 1200m. Hung inwards over the concluding stages causing Miss Ottley further difficulty. Miss Ottley advised that she did not activate the removable deafeners in consequence.
ALWAYS A PLAYA - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver B Butt. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly. Paced roughly in the early stages having to be restrained. Held up by a weakening runner final bend and early in the run home. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination after presenting with a laceration on the right front heel which was treated.
MAJOR OLLIE - over-raced middle stages. Weakened final bend.
ZIP YA LIP - raced greenly passing the 900m losing ground.

HE AINT NO DEVIL - trainer J Cox was issued a warning for presenting the gelding to race without the notified pacifier. Weakened from the 600m before breaking near the 500m losing all chance. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming.
KD GRINS - hung outwards at various stages throughout the running.
MONARO DEAN - broke at the start losing all chance.

WHAT THE DRAGON - over-raced middle stages. Trotted roughly in the middle and later stages of the run home requiring driver K Cameron to rebalance the gelding and refrain from driving it out for a period.

VINCENT REACTRESS - held up early and middle stages of the run home.

SPIRIT DOWNUNDER - driver O Thornley advised the removable deafeners failed to activate due to the cord breaking.

BOUNCE N BEYOND - late scratching at 10.04am on Veterinary advice.
WALKINONSUNSHINE - hampered by a breaking runner rounding the final bend.
MAJOR DOOSIE - over-raced middle stages.
HABIBTI PAT - lost momentum and raised its head when leading near the 100 metres after driver B Orange was unsuccessful in activating the removable deafeners. Stewards questioned co-trainer G Hope regarding the manner in which the gear had been affixed and after hearing from Mr Hope and reviewing the available footage, it was established that the clip that tethers the cord to the deafeners had become caught on the mare's overcheck, with the trainers not considered to be at fault. Mr Hope undertook to make alterations to the gear to prevent a recurrence.
EUROSTYLE - broke rounding the final bend hampering trailing runners losing all chance.
MIGHTY LOGAN - hampered by a breaking runner rounding the final bend.
BRING ON THE MUSCLE - late scratching at 8.49am on Veterinary advice.
Race 9   AVON CITY FORD NEW BRIGHTON CUP (STAND PACE)
THE LAZARUS EFFECT - broke at the start losing ground.
MO'UNGA - broke at the start losing ground.
RENEGADE - restrained to take cover on the marker line through the early stages.
Race 10   RANGIORA ITM MOBILE PACE
AKULA - trainer K Butt was issued a warning for failing to have the correct colours available.
FANTABULOUS - held up early in the run home.
THE VISIONARY - held up early in the run home.
TRAVEL AGENT - raced wide early. Gave ground rounding the final bend and weakened further throughout the run home. When questioned regarding the performance, driver J Dunn advised that the gelding had felt awkward in its gait throughout the event and had failed to travel comfortably at any stage. Mr Dunn added that he was disappointed with the gelding's effort but could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr Dunn undertook to notify Stewards should anything become apparent in the coming days that may explain the gelding's performance.
Race 11   IAN DOBSON MEMORIAL 'JOHNNY GLOBE' 3YO CLASSIC (MOB PACE)
FRANCO ANKARA - held up early in the run home.
ASHLEY FRANK - weakened from the 400m. When questioned regarding the performance co-trainer A Cullen advised she was was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
FREEZE FRAME - Driver A Butt was questioned regarding the reasons he did not drive his horse out with any apparent vigour over the final 50 metres when positioned in third place. Mr Butt explained that the horse was doing its best at that stage of the race and, in his opinion, any further urging would not have improved its finishing position or altered the placings. After considering Mr Butt's explanation, reviewing the available footage and taking into account the margin between the third and fourth placed runners, Stewards were satisfied that his actions had not affected the result and determined that no further action was warranted other to caution Mr Butt and remind him of his obligations to drive his runner out fully to the end of the race when in a stakes-bearing position.
FRANCO LOMU - late scratching at 6.24pm on Veterinary advice. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
Race 12   PROBUILD ITM MOBILE PACE
QUICKER THAN QUICK - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver B Butt. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Paced roughly in the early stages. Held up early in the run home.

FUSION REACTOR - junior driver W House admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty, the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $300.
