Race 1   RED PARK FARMS MOBILE PACE
In the initial stages of the score up the red light came on prior to being rectified by the Starter.
GIORGIO DENARIO - paced roughly leaving the 1000m.
SHADES OF ROBYN - paced roughly shortly after the start. Continued to pace roughly at various stages throughout losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the gelding.
KOTARE RIMU - Stewards lodged a protest against 1st placing being awarded under Rule 869(7B) alleging the gelding had gained an advantage by racing inside the final track marker prior to the passing lane. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards, driver S Hill and trainer R Houghton, the Adjudicative Committee upheld the protest and KOTARE RIMU was relegated to 2nd placing. Junior driver S Hill (assisted by A Butt) admitted an associated charge in that he allowed his runner to improve inside a track marker thereby gaining an advantage. After hearing submissions on penalty, the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Hill's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 17 May up to and including 29 May 2026 (3 days).
THERE HE GOES - broke in the score up losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
FLYING ACE - driver B Orange had difficulty activating the removable deafeners in the run home.
Race 2   TRUDGEON PAINTERS TROT
OUR PERIWINKLE - broke near the 600m and shifted inwards striking a number of track markers losing all chance.
BRIGHTMAN - broke rounding the first bend losing all chance. Driver R Close advised he would be recommending gear changes prior to the gelding racing next.
MISS MADDIE MAXIE - hung inwards near the 350m striking track markers.
BULLET - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 200m. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation in the early stages.
KAYLEEBELLE - broke at the start losing ground. Broke again near the 200m hampering a trailing runner losing all chance. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming.
TIME FOR VICTORY - driver O Thornley was issued a warning for using her whip in a continuous manner in the run home.
Race 3   GARTH JEMMETT CONSTRUCTION LTD MOBILE PACE
POSEIDON - when questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver G Smith advised he was disappointed with the effort and would be having blood tests taken from the gelding in the coming days. Stewards will follow up the results.
EBONY EYES - locked wheels briefly with TAIKA near the 1900m.
TAIKA - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver G Shand. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Locked wheels briefly with EBONY EYES near the 1900m. Raced wide from the 850m.
BOY RACER - refused to score up losing considerable ground. Declared a non-runner by Stewards under Rule 213(1)(e) due to unsatisfactory manners prior to the start. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion from a mobile start prior to resuming.
Race 4   PREMIUM PEAS / SMITH SEEDS TROT
HELP ME - trotted roughly in the middle stages of the run home when attempting to obtain clear racing room.
AMISTOZO - late scratching at 8.11am on Veterinary advice.
Race 5   GARY McCORMICK TRANSPORT LTD PACE
SANS REPOS - driver R Alfeld was issued a warning for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
NOT OVER - broke at the start losing ground.
NORMIE STEAD - broke at the start losing ground.
GOORAMBAT ART - over-raced middle stages.
DOCTOR TIM - weakened late in the run home.
ALWAYS BEE GEE - hung inwards throughout the run home.
Race 6   WE'VE GOT THE TROTS SYNDICATE MOBILE TROT
SWITCH ON - trotted roughly at various stages throughout. Weakened final bend hampering a trailing runner.
VALYRIAN - hampered by a weakening runner final bend. Broke leaving the final bend losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
BARRYTOWN - shifted into the passing lane in the run home. Driver R Harrison was issued a warning to maintain a straight course and leave full access to the passing lane for trailing runners in the run home.
AVEROSS MAJESTY - weakened from the 400m. Stewards questioned driver D O'Connell regarding the manner in which he drove when contesting for the lead from the 1200m to the 700m before weakening. After considering his explanation, Stewards issued a charge under Rule 869(3)(g) alleging he drove in a manner capable of diminishing his chances of winning by continuing to challenge for the lead and failing to give his horse sufficient respite. Mr O'Connell defended the charge and after viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and Mr O'Connell, the Adjudicative Committee found the charge proved and Mr O'Connell's driver's licence was suspended from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 29 May 2026 (6 days).
Race 7   FOWLER HOMES ASHBURTON MOBILE PACE
OCEAN OF TEARS - held up early in the run home.
EYES OF AN ANGEL - driver S Tomlinson reported the filly had over-raced in the middle stages and caused her difficulty when attempting to shift into the passing lane to obtain clear running.
BETTOR THAN LIZZY - raced wide early.
SHEZABETTORGIRL - over-raced middle stages. Held up early and middle stages of the run home.
Race 8   WHITE RACING/ HOTEL ASHBURTON HANDLE CLUB PACE
COUNTRY GOLD - held up early in the run home.
COMMANDER BEN - broke at the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Over-raced early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
DAWN TO DARK - broke at the start losing ground. Over-raced middle stages.
FLYAWAY - raced wide early. Hung inwards in the run home.
