Race Comments

Race 1   DO YOU WANT ME / MARION HICKEY MOBILE PACE
THE ELITE ATHLETE - checked and awkwardly positioned to the wheel of GENUINE IMITATION near the 500m.
GENUINE IMITATION - paced roughly and lost ground near the 500m when leading after Driver M Hay activated the removable deafeners hampering THE ELITE ATHLETE. A warning was placed on the racing record of the filly. Authorisation of this runner's provisional third placing was withheld after the trainer of the fifth-placed runner, THE ELITE ATHLETE (W Devenport), requested to view all available films to consider lodging a protest in relation to the incident near the 500m, and whether, but for that interference, THE ELITE ATHLETE would have finished ahead of GENUINE IMITATION. After reviewing the footage and considering the Stewards' observations, Ms Devenport elected not to proceed with a protest, and the placings were subsequently authorised.
DREAM ON LOU - lay inwards and had to be corrected approaching the 500m.
ALWAYS B SWEET - out of position at dispatch when being restrained by junior driver B Wilkins. Stewards lodged an Information alleging that Ms Wilkens failed to ensure ALWAYS B SWEET was in position at the start. Due to Ms Wilkins not having a senior horseman available to assist her during the course of this meeting and her unavailability after the meeting due to scheduled travel arrangements to return home, the matter was adjourned and will reconvene prior to the first race on the second day.
Race 2   AUTO SUPPLIERS GROUP MOBILE PACE
A false start was declared at the first attempt due to SHEZABONNIELASS breaking in the score up checking a second row runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly.
SHEZABONNIELASS - placed in restricted room entering the first bend. Over-raced middle stages.
RUN BLAZE RUN - contacted track markers rounding the final bend. Driver J Abernethy elected to defend a breach of Rule 869(7A)(a), namely that he failed to ensure no contact was made with a track marker. The matter was adjourned at Mr Abernethy's request and is to be heard by the Adjudicative Committee prior to the first race on the second day of this meeting.
VERA GRACE - lay inwards contacting a track marker approaching the 200m.
TACT FRANCO - hung outwards and lost ground approaching the 1750m.
MAJOR NIGHTMARE - awkwardly placed to the wheel of MAGIE DO entering the first bend. Over-raced middle stages.
MAGIE DO - hung inwards approaching the first bend and placed in restricted room shortly after.
UPTON - over-raced middle stages.
Race 3   BERNIES MEMORIAL MOBILE PACE
INDISPOSED - Driver M Hay was issued a warning for allowing the gelding's sulky to protrude inside track markers prior to exiting the final bend.
BALTIC STAR - over-raced when being restrained early stages.
TRES BONNE FILLE - raced wide early before being restrained to the rear. Over-raced middle stages. The offside front hopple middle carrier became detached near the 650m. Upon inspection of the gear, it was established that Trainer R Dickson had taken all reasonable steps to ensure it was securely affixed and not likely to come adrift.
BENSON DUDE - held up early stages of the run home. Paced roughly passing the 100m.
COSMIC STAR - lay inwards contacting track markers rounding the final bend.
SANTANNA MACH - Weakened under pressure from the 400m. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver H Orange stated that he could offer no tangible explanation for the below market expectation effort.
Race 4   CITY OF PALMERSTON NORTH FESTIVAL CUP MOBILE PACE
DOCTOR TIM - contacted a track marker entering the first bend after being placed in restricted room to the inside of HA'PENNY (E Johnson), which had also been momentarily crowded when racing to the inside of STEALERS WHEEL (P Ferguson) and FREDASTAIRE (S Abernethy). After reviewing all available footage, Stewards were unable to attribute responsibility for DOCTOR TIM and HA'PENNY being placed in restricted room to any one horse or driver, and accordingly took the matter no further.
Over-raced briefly through the middle stages. Shifted outwards near the 1250m, momentarily forcing BLUE CHIP LOU (H Orange) to race wider on the track. Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule and after viewing all available films established that driver M Hay had commenced his outward movement prior to BLUE CHIP LOU reaching his sulky wheel, and accordingly no further action was taken. Weakened leaving the final turn.
HA'PENNY - had to be restrained racing into the first bend after being momentarily crowded for racing room when racing to the inside of STEALERS WHEEL. Weakened leaving the final turn.
MIDNIGHT MIKI - paced roughly near the 1150m when improving three wide.
Race 5   DOUG BRADLEY PAINTERS / T MARKET FRESH HANDICAP TROT
MASS DISRUPTION - broke after the start losing all chance.
RUBBLE ON THE DOUBLE - lay inwards rounding the final bend.
ORDAINED - held up early stages of the run home.
HIGHVIEW ROCKN ROLL - broke near the 1300m losing all chance.
Race 6   TANGI UTIKERE MP FOR PALMERSTON NORTH MOBILE PACE
A false start was declared at the first attempt after I CAN TOO broke early in the score up impeding GWENDOLINE MARY. Driver A Poutama (I CAN TOO) elected to retain his allocated barrier position for the restart. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
I CAN TOO - broke again early in the score up at the second attempt and was out of position at dispatch.
HE'S TOUGH - over-raced middle stages. Paced roughly near the 950m and again near the 350m.
