Race Comments

Race 1   STU BAILEY MEMORIAL (SPONSORED BY MARK JONES) HCP TROT
WOT UP TYRON - broke after 150m losing ground. Broke again passing the 450m losing all chance.
DIDN'T DI - broke near the 300m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
ROBBIE K - trainer P Nairn advised the gelding would be racing without front shoes. Trotted roughly over the concluding stages and was unable to be driven out by driver P Nairn. Stewards questioned Mr Nairn regarding the tactics he adopted near the 1500m when electing to shift away from a trailing position to improve to the lead, and also the circumstances which enabled KAWATIRI TREV to improve to his inside leaving the final bend. Mr Nairn advised that after electing to restrain ROBBIE K in the early stages to trail KAWATIRI TREV, he had initially been satisfied to remain in that position, noting that ROBBIE K lacks speed and he had anticipated KAWATIRI TREV would maintain an even tempo when leading. However, near the 1500m KAWATIRI TREV commenced to race greenly which resulted in the pace easing, and he formed the view that it was in his gelding's best interests to shift outwards and improve to the lead in order to ensure a more genuine tempo. Mr Nairn further advised that ROBBIE K raced greenly rounding the final bend and hung outwards despite his efforts, as it had at its most recent trial, which enabled KAWATIRI TREV to obtain a run to its inside. After reviewing the available films from the most recent trial and today's race, and considering Mr Nairn's explanation, Stewards took the matter no further other than to place a warning on the racing record of ROBBIE K. Mr Nairn advised that gear changes will be made prior to the gelding racing again.
KAWATIRI TREV - trainer P Nairn advised the gelding would be racing without front shoes. Raced greenly near the 1500m, resulting in a slight easing of the pace which hampered trailing runners. Driver S Whatuira advised Stewards that the gelding had raced greenly at that stage and, for this reason, she elected to obtain cover as she believed the gelding would race more tractably when positioned with cover.
IMPERIAL KNIGHT - hung inwards racing into the first bend striking several track markers. Trotted roughly throughout the run home and briefly switched to a pace passing the 100m.

Stewards questioned Driver S O'Reilly regarding the manner in which she drove near the 900 metres, specifically her decision not to shift wider on the track when her runner was in a break. Miss O'Reilly explained that she had initially commenced to shift outwards to clear trailing runners however, LUVAVICI, which had been trailing her, had also commenced to shift outwards in an attempt to improve around her runner.
