Trainer J Abernethy advised Stewards on 08 December that blood test taken from MICK KONSTANTIN revealed no significant abnormality and that the gelding would continue its preparation.

Race Comments

Race 1   HILTON DELEGAT PAINTING AND DECORATING MOBILE PACE
BET ON POLLY - lay out and paced roughly for several strides near the 400m.
TAVENER - weakened final turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
RHAEGAL - Driver K Coppins was spoken to advisedly and reminded of her obligations to drive her runner out fully to the end of the race when circumstances permit.
LINCOLN MAREE - approval was given for a shadow roll to be fitted prior to the start. Broke in the score up and was well back from position at dispatch. A warning was placed on the filly's barrier manners. Broke again near the 1750m losing all chance.
LILITH - lay in at various stages. Shifted in near the 700m having to be corrected when Driver B Wilkins attempted to activate the deafeners which failed to release.
Race 2   MASTERTON CLUB HANDICAP TROT
TIKI - broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the filly's barrier manners. Broke again near the 1600m losing all chance.
VALENTINA SHEVCHENKO - broke inside the 300m losing considerable ground. Authorisation of this runner's 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the mare had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation.
MECHANICA - lay in and weakened rounding the final turn.
COOL PHELAN - broke approaching the 100m losing its chance.
SO MYSTIFYING - broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground.
Race 3   POST OFFICE HOTEL PAHIATUA MOBILE PACE
CANDY GIRL - weakened leaving the final turn.
PRETTY BOY - shifted down into the passing lane when leading late in the run home with Driver H Orange being reminded of his obligations to leave full access to the passing lane for trailing runners.
RUN BLAZE RUN - lay in and paced roughly near the 1400m. Paced roughly again near the 1000m and weakened from that point. When spoken to regarding the performance Driver S Abernethy stated the gelding was contacting its wheel discs causing it to over-race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
Race 4   THE PATRONS MOBILE PACE
THE BIG BANG -restrained at the 550m and then raced greenly and broke briefly passing the 500m.
EDDIE OSEI - raced wide rounding the first turn.
JETASI - raced three then four wide from the 1150m.
THE ELITE ATHLETE - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to not having raced for a considerable period of time and was cleared to start. Back from position at dispatch. Driver A Pyers was issued with a warning. Over-raced early and middle stages when at the rear.
DREAM ON LOU - lay in late in the score up contacting the sulky wheel of JAHI and broke losing ground. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Hampered by THE BIG BANG who was being restrained at the 550m and lost ground.
SPIRITUAL BLISS - over-raced through the middle stages.
PLAY THE ACE - pulled hard in the score-up and continued to over-race throughout.
Race 5   THE MEMBERS MOBILE PACE
SWEET WILLOW - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to not having raced for a considerable period of time and was cleared to start. Over-raced middle stages.
THE NIGHT FOX - held up final turn and throughout the run home.
CYAMATE - raced wide from the 1500m and then wide without cover from the 1000m when unable to secure the parked position which was being held by MELTON MOGUL.
MARIA KIRILENKO - back from position at dispatch. Driver E Phelan was issued with a warning.
TRES BONNE FILLE - pulled hard score up and continued to over-race through the middle stages.
MELTON MOGUL - Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule when CYAMATE raced wider on the track near the 1500m after MELTON MOGUL shifted out from the running line. It was established that driver A Poutama (MELTON MOGUL) had commenced his outwards movement prior to CYAMATE reaching his sulky wheel with no further action required.
Race 6   CONNIE STEWART NZ SOTHEBY'S INTERNATIONAL REALTY HCP TROT
HIGHVIEW ROCKN ROLL - broke entering the first turn and settled in a pace before breaking again losing all chance. Broke again near the 1200m when trailing the field. A warning was placed on the mare's racing manners.
ELIZABETH HILL - broke entering the first turn losing all chance. A warning was placed on the mare's racing manners.
TRIPPY TYRON - broke at the start losing ground.
FORGIVENESS - slow early. Broke near the 950m losing all chance.
MANCHESTER IN TIME - broke at the start losing ground.
Race 7   OSBORNE GROUP CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT WAIRARAPA CUP MOB PACE
FUSION REACTOR - paced roughly in the home straight passing the 100m.
TWISTA - pre-race warmed.
GOTTA ELECT BILL - over-raced middle stages. Weakened in the run home.
LORD DELMAR - lay out when weakening in the run home and shifted up the track despite the efforts of Driver P Ferguson.
Race 8   WAIRARAPA HARNESS RACING AT TAUHERENIKAU 2 JANUARY MOB PACE
SUPER FUND - paced roughly for several strides approaching the first turn.
HA'PENNY - lay out throughout the run home.
BAILEYS PITCH - over-raced middle stages.
