Race Comments

Race 1   OKTOBERFEST AT THE CLUBHOUSE 3RD OCT MOBILE PACE
MARIA KIRILENKO - Stewards questioned driver M Northcott regarding the tactics she adopted near the 950m when shifting outwards from a trailing position. Ms Northcott explained she believed the tempo of the race was easing and given the mare's recent tendency to be unable to quicken in the final stages when racing with cover, she elected to shift into the open in an effort to improve the pace and encourage the mare to race more competitively. She further advised the mare had appreciated a recent gear change. Stewards noted Ms Northcott's explanation.
BENSON DUDE - paced roughly near the 800m. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 400m.
RIVERBOY BEN - hampered by a breaking runner near the 400m.
VINCENTS GIRL - driver K Hall advised he did not activate the sliding blinds due to having the field covered.
MURTLE THE TURTLE - hampered by a breaking runner near the 400m.
CONRAD H - attempted to shift inwards near the 400m making contact with the sulky stay of MARIA KIRILENKO resulting in the gelding breaking and hampering trailing runners. Authorisation of 3rd placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that this runner had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation. Driver A Sharpe admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly by shifting ground when not in a position to do so which resulted in his own horse breaking. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $400.

LOTERIA - back a distance and slow to leave the pre-race formation. Broke rounding the final bend losing ground. Stewards spoke with junior driver H Orange, assisted by driver J Dickie, regarding being back from its unruly position at the start. Mr Orange advised his instructions were to stay back and attempt to keep the mare trotting. Mr Dickie, who had driven the horse in its previous starts, confirmed the horse is difficult to drive early in the score up. Notwithstanding this Mr Orange was advised to make a greater effort to be closer when the score up commences thereby giving his drive a better opportunity to be in position at the start.
