Race Comments

Race 1   WEDNESDAY QUIZ NIGHT AT THE CLUBHOUSE HANDICAP TROT
ALL MUSCLED UP - slow early. Held up early in the run home.
JOHNNY WHO - when questioned regarding the performance Driver C Hackett stated that the gelding had felt flat throughout and would probably gain benefit from the run in what was its first race for 4 weeks.
YA EEJIT YA - broke briefly at the start losing ground. When questioned regarding the performance Driver E Johnson stated that after losing ground at the start the gelding, which was racing older horses in tonight's event, had lay in entering the first turn losing more ground. Ms Johnson further stated that she had been instructed to save YA EEJIT YA for one run and had not received a trail into the race as she had hoped when JOHNNY WHO, which she was following, had failed to improve as expected. She also added that the gelding had trotted roughly early in the run home having to be steadied before finishing on well once balanced. Stewards noted Ms Johnson's comments.
Race 2   PIE NIGHT IN THE SKYLINE LOUNGE AUG 28TH MOBILE PACE
BLINX - broke shortly after the start losing ground before settling at the rear. A warning was placed on the filly's barrier manners.
CHAPEL GATE - when questioned regarding the performance Driver T Cameron stated that he was disappointed with the filly's effort. Stewards will follow up with Trainer T Herlihy in the coming days.
ALWAYS B SWEET - over-raced middle stages.
Race 3   TARDINA STUD - HERE FOR THE HORSE MOBILE PACE
AQUILA - raced wide from the 950m. Weakened final turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
MICK KONSTANTIN - over-raced middle stages after surrendering the lead.
MANTRA - lay out rounding the final turn despite the efforts of Driver J Dunn.
HEAVEN HIGH - commenced to improve three wide from the 1300m but was then restrained back to the rear approaching the 900m.
MIDFREW LUCRE - held up late in the run home.
AUCTIONEER - held up final turn and early stages of the run home.
Race 4   NZ FARMERS LIVESTOCK MOBILE PACE
REET PETITE - broke in the early stages of the score up losing considerable ground and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the filly's barrier manners. Weakened in the run home.
ALWAYSBESECRET - back from position at dispatch despite the efforts of Driver A Poutama. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier manners. Hampered briefly near the 1200m when there was an easing of the pace. Held up briefly passing the 150m and then again short of the winning post.
THE NIGHT FOX - over-raced middle stages. Hampered briefly near the 1200m when there was an easing of the pace. Held up final turn and early stages of the run home with Driver C Hackett not activating the removable deafeners or sliding blinds as a result.
BENJAMIN BUTTON - over-raced middle stages before improving three wide from the 700m. Lay in entering the final turn. Had to be steadied near the 150m when ALWAYSBESECRET improved to its inside then weakened final stages.
Race 5   GOBBLE & GO AT THE STABLES MOBILE PACE
ADJOURNMENT - held up briefly approaching the 100m.
DIXIELAND DELIGHT - held up briefly approaching the 100m.
LE MAJOR - back from position at the start. Driver J Stormont was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice. Raced wide from the 750m.
ALWAYS B CHARLIE - held up early final turn and throughout the run home with Driver P Ferguson not activating the removable deafeners as a result.
Race 6   IRT. YOUR HORSE. OUR PASSION. MOBILE PACE
MAKORORI - held up having to be steadied when placed in restricted room approaching the 70m when both TUAREG (2nd placing) and BETTOR BE A LEGEND (1st placing) shifted ground. Authorisation of placings was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that there wasn't sufficient grounds for lodging protests against the first two placegetters given where the interference occurred and the margins involved. Trainer/Driver N Chilcott (MAKORORI) was afforded the opportunity to proceed with protests but elected not to do so. An investigation into this matter was opened and adjourned sine die.
CUPIDS ARROW - broke early in the score up and was back from position at the candy pole. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Weakened final turn.
Stewards reconvened the investigation into MAKORORI (N Chilcott) having to be steadied when placed in restricted room near the 70m. After viewing the replays and hearing the relative evidence Stewards issued warnings to Drivers J Stormont (BETTOR BE A LEGEND) and C Hackett (TUAREG) to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the home straight in future.
Race 7   NZMCA PARKING AT CAMBRIDGE RACEWAY HANDICAP TROT
WHATZ THE LUCK - required assistance from an attendant prior to the start. A warning was placed on the gelding barrier manners. Broke shortly after the start losing ground. Broke again near the 1600m when trailing the field.
JUMPING JAKE FLASH - delayed the start at the first attempt when becoming fractious resulting in the field having to be turned out of line. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Broke shortly after the start losing ground then mixed its gait before settling and trailed the field throughout.
WIND OF CHANGE - broke near the 1800m hampering a trailing runner losing all chance.
EAGLE HANOVER - Driver M Ranger reported that she did not activate the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
SONSOFTHEMERCH - slow early losing considerable ground. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 1750m and trailed the leaders thereafter.
