There was an error in some race day publications which showed ALWAYS DREAMING in Race 9 as both #6 and #9 with this being corrected and the information disseminated through the appropriate channels.

Pre-race blood testing was carried out.

A random selection of drivers underwent pre-race alcohol breath testing with all providing clear samples.

Race Comments

Race 1   DIAMOND CREEK / SBSR SOUTHERN SURGE SERIES TROT
FASTAR - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1300m. Weakened from the 800m before switching to a pace having to be broken up by driver R Allen losing all chance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormality.
OUR ROSE HILL - a clip on the breast plate detached during the running.
JAY BEE HILL - fractious prior to the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
TICKTOCK MCGLAUGHLIN - broke at the start losing all chance.
MAJIC N THE PORT - broke at the start hampering a trailing runner losing ground.
LADY WHISTLEDOWN - broke rounding the first bend losing ground. Again broke near the 1600m losing all chance.
HOBBS - contacted the final track marker prior to the passing lane. Driver N Williamson was issued with a warning. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards had reviewed the footage and were satisfied the mare had not gained an advantage.
WHAT'S THE WHISPER - hung inwards rounding the final bend striking a track marker. Driver P Williamson reported he was unable to activate the removable deafeners due to the cord becoming entangled.
KIMBO - hampered by a breaking runner at the start. Over-raced middle stages. Broke near the 1300m hampering a trailing runner losing ground.
Prior to the authorisation of placings, Stewards spoke with Starter Mr N Popham regarding the start. After hearing from Mr Popham and viewing the replays it was established that JAY BEE HILL had not breached the barrier strand with all placings being duly authorised.
Trainer C Barron advised Stewards on 24 October that MAJESTIC CHALLEN has been served since last racing.
Race 2   DIAMOND CREEK / SBSR SOUTHERN SURGE SERIES MOBILE PACE
ERRATIC - weakened from the 900m hampering trailing runners. When questioned regarding the performance driver R McIlwrick advised the mare may not have handled the smaller track today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormality. A warning was placed on the racing performance of ERRATIC.
DIAMONDSONMYSHOES - hampered by a weakening runner near the 900m.
HAVARTI ARDEN - held up final bend and early in the run home.
SEARING LIGHT - hampered by a weakening runner near the 600m. Weakened final bend.
THE WULVER - raced wide early.
RYLAN CHARLIE - raced wide early. Weakened from the 600m hampering trailing runners. Lay in final bend contacting a track marker.
MACK PACK - raced wide early. Hampered by a weakening runner near the 600m. Held up final bend and early in the run home.
DURRANT - raced wide early.
JANAKA'S DELIGHT - over-raced in the middle stages. Hampered by a weakening runner near the 900m.
MR PRESIDENT - over-raced in the early stages.
JACCKA EVAN - raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Race 3   DIAMOND CREEK / SBSR SOUTHERN SURGE SERIES MOBILE PACE
BOMBAY GLACIER - briefly placed in restricted room leaving the final bend when an inside runner shifted ground outwards.
ARTMORE - lay inwards near the 1300m contacting track markers. When questioned regarding the performance driver M Hurrell advised that the mare had over-raced when leading and maybe better driven with cover.
MAGIC SIGN - briefly placed in restricted room leaving the final bend when an inside runner shifted ground outwards.
RISE UP N DANCE - raced wide through the middle stages.
FRANCO HUNTINGTON - raced wide early.
ROBYNS HUSTLER - raced wide early.
JENNY GUMP - shifted ground inwards near the 600m placing NYLA in restricted room. After speaking with drivers S Walkinshaw and C Ferguson (NYLA) it was established that both horses had moved inwards simultaneously to take the same run with Mr Ferguson's horse being slow to respond when being restrained resulting in his runner being placed in restrcted room. Driver S Walkinshaw was warned to exercise greater care after shifting ground outwards leaving the final bend briefly placing outside runners in restricted room. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance trainer D McLachlan advised the mare performs best when saved for one run as it was today.
ASK ME LOU - under pressure from the 800m hampering trailing runners.
NYLA - checked near the 600m when an inside runner shifted ground outwards. Held up early in the run home.
PARADISE VALLEY - hampered for a distance near the 800m.
TASHS BAD GIRL - hampered for a distance near the 800m.
Race 4   DIAMOND CREEK / SBSR SOUTHERN SURGE SERIES MOBILE PACE
VAN LIBERTY - held up early in the run home.
HE'S NO ROMEO - raced wide early.
DRAGON POWER - over-raced middle stages.
HEIDSIECK - briefly locked sulky stays with BURNHAM GIRL racing into the first bend. Raced wide from the 1600m.
MAJOR BURNS - raced four wide from the 700m.
MONTAGE - raced wide from the 900m.
SKY PATROL - over-raced middle stages. Raced wide with cover from the 1200m.
BURNHAM GIRL - briefly locked sulky stays with HEIDSIECK racing into the first bend. Raced wide through the middle stages.
HERE'S JOHNY - raced wide through the early and middle stages.
Race 5   DIAMOND CREEK / SBSR SOUTHERN SURGE SERIES HANDICAP TROT
EMILY - held up in the early stages of the run home.
MIXED FAITH - lay inwards leaving the final bend striking a track marker.
BLACK PAT - broke at the start losing ground. Had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home. When spoken to regarding the performance of a favoured runner trainer/driver N Williamson advised that the mare had become worked up prior to the start and he will be making gear changes in an effort to rectify this. Mr Williamson further stated that he elected not to shift ground near the 1000m when the opportunity existed as the runner he would have been following had been trotting roughly and he was concerned it may have broken as a consequence.
LIL WHIP - trainer T Dewe was issued with a warning after presenting the mare with the incorrect saddle cloth. Raced wide early.
CODY BANNER - trotted roughly in the run home and was unable to be driven out by driver M Williamson as a consequence.
DOMINATION'S CALL - lay inwards rounding the first bend contacting track markers.
Race 6   CHRIS 'BECKERS' BECKLEY MEMORIAL/SBSR STHRN SURGE MOB PCE
NETHERTON FRANCO - hampered by a weakening runner leaving the final bend.
FOXFIRE EASTON - raced wide early. Weakened leaving the final bend hampering trailing runners. When questioned regarding the performance of a favoured runner driver C Dalgety advised that he was disappointed with the effort of the gelding and could offer no tangible explanation.
AINT NO ANGEL - raced wide early. Hung inwards and broke passing the 1600m checking inside runners, losing ground. Broke again near the 450m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
FOXING EASTON - checked by a breaking runner near the 1600m.
RASPALIA - hampered by a weakening runner leaving the final bend. Held up early in the run home.
TUA LIPA - broke racing into the first bend when being shifted down the track. Checked and broke passing the 1600m when an outside runner hung inwards. Stewards spoke with driver B Orange regarding the gelding breaking on the first bend, who advised that his runner had been slow to react when being pushed down the track and had briefly galloped as a result.
ALWAYS TICKING - raced wide early.
Trainer M Williamson advised Stewards on 3 September that FLYING BIRD has had its knees treated since last racing.
Race 7   DIAMOND CREEK / SBSR SOUTHERN SURGE SERIES MOBILE PACE
CRACKASKY - crowded by an outside runner near the 50m.
OUR TWINKLE - raced wide early. Lay inwards near the 1300m striking a track marker.
MIND PHILLY - raced wide early. Weakened final bend.
BLUE DRAGON - held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home. Again held up over the concluding stages with the mare unable to be fully driven out by driver C Ferguson.
RAKAMICK - raced wide until being restrained to the rear of the field near the 1100m. Held up final bend and the early stages of the run home.
ROCKY PACIFIC - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver C Dalgety. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Crowded by outside runners near the 50m and was forced to race inside track markers.
SHERGAR - raced wide early.
SURE TO RISE - over-raced middle stages. Held up final bend and the middle stages of the run home. Driver K Green reported she did not activate the removable deafeners as a consequence. Shifted ground inwards near the 50m forcing an inside runner over a track marker. Ms Green admitted a charge under Rule 869(7A)(c) and after viewing replays and considering submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $250.
MIGHTY MIKI - over-raced middle stages.
Race 8   DIAMOND CREEK / SBSR SOUTHERN SURGE SERIES HANDICAP TROT
KYLE LOCH - lay inwards racing into the first bend striking track markers.
STELLA BAY - broke at the start losing all chance. Placed on the Unruly for future standing starts at the request of trainer L Bond.
OUR SUPERFUND - broke after 150m losing ground. Broke again near the 1600m losing all chance and was retired from the race by driver E Barron.
MUSCLE MIST - switched to a pace rounding the first bend before breaking losing ground.
SPIRITINTHESKY - driver K Green was warned for driving with her foot removed from the sulky footrest for a prolonged period in the early stages. Ms Green was also warned for using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
PENELOPE LANE - broke rounding the first bend losing ground. Broke again near the 400m losing all chance. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
BILL BOOTIT - switched to a pace rounding the first bend before breaking losing ground. Broke again near the 100m and failed to settle despite the efforts of driver G Goodman.
ERROL D - broke near the 750m losing ground. Broke again near the 150m and failed to settle despite the efforts of driver S Walkinshaw. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
TO THE MOON AND BACK - broke at the start losing all chance.
KOKO KABOOM - pre-race warmed. Broke rounding the first bend losing ground.
Trainer C Barron advised Stewards on 24 October that OUR SUPERFUND has had its joints treated since last racing.
Race 9   DIAMOND CREEK / SBSR SOUTHERN SURGE SERIES MOBILE PACE
SOUTHSIDE OF HEAVEN - over-raced briefly near the 1850m.
ALWAYS DREAMING - pre-race warmed.
BOBBIES ROCK - over-raced when being restrained to take cover near the 1600m.
Race 10   DIAMOND CREEK / SBSR SOUTHERN SURGE SERIES MOBILE PACE
SAUCY DELIGHT - driver C Ferguson reported he did not activate the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
DOUBLE QUICK - pre-race warmed.
ALWAYS BE BATMAN - over-raced middle stages. Hung inwards throughout the run home causing driver B Orange difficulty, who has recommended gear changes to connections.
AIRWAVES - over-raced middle stages.
