Race Comments

Race 1   LISTEN LIVE ON SPORTNATION.NZ MOBILE PACE
JOHNNY LINCOLN - over-raced middle stages. Lay out rounding the turns and in particular the final turn losing ground. Held up over the concluding stages. When questioned Driver P Ferguson confirmed that he had encountered difficulty handling the turns but advised that he was satisfied with the performance given the colt was racing older horses.
NEW KID IN TOWN - shifted out late in the run home locking wheels with TYSON. Authorisation of 2nd placing was withheld to enable Stewards to view the replay of the run home and to question Driver Z Butcher (TYSON) who advised that his runner had contributed to the incident by laying in. Stewards took the matter no further with 2nd placing being duly authorised.
BIG HERB - lay in late in the run home. Authorisation of this runner's 1st placing was briefly withheld until it was established that the gelding had not contributed to NEW KID IN TOWN and TYSON locking wheels.
TYSON - briefly paced roughly near the 1300m. Lay in at various stages. Driver Z Butcher advised that he would be recommending a gear change.

CON GRAZIA LOVE - had to be steadied near the 2000m after briefly racing wider when to the outside of SHESGOLD which had been moved down the track marginally when BRAVEHEARTHIGHLANDER shifted down from a three wide position into the running line. Stewards were satisfied that SHESGOLD had not been shifted fully down on to the marker line and took the matter no further. Over-raced middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance Driver E Johnson stated that the 30m handicap and a moderate tempo in the middle stages had made it difficult to make up ground over the final stages.
