Race 5 - BOB & MARLENE LYNCH -HERE FOR THE HORSE TROT
Trainer J Abernethy advised Stewards on 23 August that EAGLE HANOVER has recovered well and could only attribute the disappointing performance to not handling the right handed track. He further advised that he has made some alterations to the mare's shoeing and that she has worked well since.

Race 1   KELATO ANIMAL HEALTH - NORTHERN METRO (HEAT 1) HCP TROT
IT AIN'T ME BABE - caused a brief delay to the start due to the mare becoming fractious. Switched to a pace shortly after the start having to be broken up by its driver losing considerable ground. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion from a standing start prior to resuming. Weakened final turn.
ULTIMATE MOMENT - swung outwards at the start hampering an outside runner then broke losing ground.
HUGHIE WALLACE - hampered at the start then broke briefly losing ground. Weakened final turn.
HIGHVIEW ROCKN ROLL - broke then switched to a pace approaching the first turn losing all chance.
PANTANI - pre-race warmed.
Race 2   LINCOLN FARMS SUPPORTING THE NZHAT MOBILE PACE
BENSON DUDE - had to be steadied late in the run home when placed in restricted room.
LINCOLN LA MOOSE - Driver Z Butcher reported that a sulky tyre deflated near the 1400m.
UPSTAGE - broke at the start and shifted out marginally hampering outside runners but soon settled. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners.
J T BOE - briefly hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Raced greenly near the 1700m when leading.
MAJOR MAJOR - briefly hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start.
ALWAYS B STUNNING - briefly hampered shortly after the start when an inside runner shifted outwards.
NELSON'S BOY - paced roughly when avoiding a breaking runner shortly after the start losing ground.
Race 3   OBEX MEDICAL FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
CLOUDING OVER - struck by a dislodged track marker entering the first turn and broke shortly after before shifting out contacting an outside runner's sulky with trailing runners being hampered and lost ground before settling.
DEAR GOD - lay in entering the first turn dislodging a track marker. Hampered late in the run home.
DELIGHTFUL CHIC - received a punctured tyre when contacted by a breaking runner near the 1400m with the tube coming away from the rim near the 1000m. Weakened final turn
KOURTNEY KARDASH - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1400m. Raced wide from the 1000m.
SEASIDE ROSE - shifted out late in the run home when appearing to shy at the infield when leading hampering the 2nd placed DEAR GOD. Authorisation of 1st placing was withheld until Driver J Abernethy (DEAR GOD - 2nd place) confirmed that his chances of winning had not been affected in this incident.
WICKED WANDA - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1400m.
BROOKSIDE GIRL - lay in and raced over track markers entering the first turn before racing over further track markers when taking evasive action to avoid a breaking runner.
DESISTELLA - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1400m and broke losing ground. When questioned Trainer/Driver Z Butcher stated that after losing ground rounding the first turn the filly had been unable to make up much leeway in what was a considerable rise in class.
Race 4   SG STUD - HERE FOR THE HORSE HANDICAP TROT
MAZEPPA - broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground.
ILSAS SON - Driver H Orange reported that the gelding cast the near hind shoe near the 1200m.
LIAISON - lay out leaving the back straight when leading but was corrected by driver D Butcher. Broke near the 500m and was taken down inside the marker line to clear trailing runners before settling near the 250m. Stewards lodged a protest against this runner's 4th placing under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging the gelding had broken in excess of 150m. Connections did not contest the protest and LIAISON was disqualified by Stewards. The bandage on the near hind came adrift early in the run home possibly as a result of contacting track markers with no action being taken.
THAT'S WHAT WE DO - broke near the 300m losing its chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
Race 5   PURDON & PHELAN RACING SUPPORTING THE NZHAT 2YO MOBILE PACE
BEACHBREAK - over-raced middle stages.
SCOOTER B - lay in and paced roughly near the 400m.
BAR LOUIE - required assistance from an attendant in the pre-race formation with a warning being placed against the gelding's barrier manners. Raced wide early.
Race 6   CLASSIQUE LANDSCAPERS HANDICAP PACE
AYE AYE CAPTAIN - forced wider on the track by an inside runner throughout the run home.
TWISTA - co-trainers S & A Telfer were issued a warning for presenting the gelding to race without the notified blinds which were affixed prior to the start. Broke shortly after the start but soon settled.
ARTISAN - unsuccessfully contested for the lead in the early stages and was then restrained to the rear. When questioned regarding the performance Driver Z Butcher stated that the mare has raced best when able to lead and that the unsuccessful effort to find the top had taken its toll.
FERNLEIGH CASH - shifted up the track throughout the run home forcing AYE AYE CAPTAIN wider. Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 869A(2) against FERNLEIGH CASH's 1st placing alleging interference to AYE AYE CAPTAIN (Driver M White - 2nd place) throughout the run home. After hearing the relative evidence and viewing the replays the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the protest. Junior Driver K Denifostova, assisted by J Dickie, admitted an associated charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly in this incident by allowing her gelding to shift out throughout the run home. After hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $400.
Race 7   BORDER FENCING SERVICE - NORTHERN METRO (HEAT 2) HCP TROT
ASTERIA LAVRA - lost ground rounding the final turn.
LIL WHIP - pre-race warmed.
BANGKOK BETTY - broke near the 200m losing its chance. A warning was placed on the mare's racing manners.
BARSUKOV - slow early. Raced four wide from the 700m.
Race 8   NZTDA - NORTHERN BRANCH - HERE FOR THE HORSE MOBILE PACE
THE NIGHT AGENT - raced keenly final turn. Paced roughly for several strides near the 200m having to be steadied.
INLOUOF - late scratching at 10.05am on veterinary advice.
Race 9   NI STANDARDBRED ASSN SUPPORTING "LIFE AFTER RACING" HCP TROT
DOLLY P - over-raced middle stages.
