Race 8 - FAHEY FENCE HIRE TROT
Following an Appeal hearing on 14 June in relation to a charge alleging driver R Close failed to drive GEORGE ELIOT out to the end of the race when having a reasonable chance of finishing 3rd, the Appeals Tribunal dismissed the Appeal however varied the penalty and suspended Mr Close's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 12 July up to and including 19 July 2024 (2 days).

Race 1   GARRARDS MOBILE TROT
The start was delayed due to the crupper on ORIGIN requiring attention.
ORIGIN - over-raced middle stages.
JACKS MATE - late scratching on Veterinary advice at 12.30pm. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
MODE - trotted roughly in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly.
WATERLOO STATION - raced wide early.
LIME IN A BOTTLE - driver M Williamson advised he did not activate the removable deafeners or sliding blinds due to having the field covered.
PENELOPE HALL - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
MASSIVE MERC - shifted outwards in the run home. Driver A Clark was warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home.
LOVEYOU TO DA SKYE - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after stumbling in the stabling area and was cleared to start. Broke as the start was effected losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Broke again near the 300m losing all chance. A warning was also placed on the racing record of the gelding. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts at the request of trainer/driver G Smith.
DASH DOSH - when questioned regarding the performance driver J Dunn advised the filly had raced lethargically throughout and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed signs of muscle tie-up. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
LADY LUCINDA - held up early in the run home. Checked and broke passing the 200m losing all chance. Stewards spoke to drivers P Davis (ORIGIN) and R Close (LADY LUCINDA) where it was established that ORIGIN had lay outwards simultaneously to LADY LUCINDA laying inwards. After viewing the replays and considering the matter Stewards were unable to apportion blame to any one horse or driver and accordingly no further action was deemed necessary. Mr Close advised the filly had hung inwards at various stages throughout.
Trainer T Bagrie advised Stewards on 13 July that blood tests taken from DASH DOSH revealed a blood disorder and the filly will be treated and freshened prior to resuming.
Race 2   XCM SPORT MOBILE PACE
SPIRITUAL BLISS - over-raced middle stages. Held up until late in the run home.
SOFIA ROSE - over-raced early and middle stages.
COURAGE REACTOR - over-raced middle stages.
RESILIENT - came together with MIGHTY FLYING LOU from the 100m after that runner hung inwards in the run home.
FUSION REACTOR - raced wide until reaching the parked position near the 1100m.
MIGHTY FLYING LOU - raced wide early. Hung inwards throughout the run home and came together with RESILIENT from the 100m.
Race 3   AVON CITY FORD MOBILE PACE
THE HIGHWAYMAN - paced roughly in the score up and was out of position at the start hampering a trailing runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Paced roughly for a distance passing the 800m. Broke passing the 300m hampering a trailing runner losing ground.
MAJOR CHEDDAR - weakened final bend hampering a trailing runner.
C C ARDEN - the required veterinary clearance was received. Hung outwards leaving the final bend and in the run home.
MOOSE MOROWSKI - hampered by a breaking runner near the 300m. Held up by a weakening runner leaving the final bend.
EYELINER - hampered in the score up and was out of position at the start. Declared a non-runner by Stewards under Rule 213(1)(j) after being denied a fair start.
WUHAN - Hung inwards at various stages throughout causing driver K Cameron difficulty.
DELIGHTFUL DREAMS - cast a shoe leaving the final bend.
Race 4   CONTINENTAL EVENT HIRE TROT
SONOMA TYRON - trotted roughly in the early stages.
LUVAVICI - began awkwardly. Had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home. Trotted roughly passing the 150m and again over the concluding stages.
KINK - began awkwardly.
MAVIS JONES - held up until late in the run home. Driver M Williamson advised he did not activate the removable deafeners in consequence.
SUNNY LOUIS - broke shortly after the start losing ground.
KD ROYALTY - lay inwards and trotted roughly early in the run home. Cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
SHEZA GIFT - raced wide early. Weakened final bend.
Race 5   MATT HARRISON CONSTRUCTION MOBILE PACE
TRUMP CARD - paced roughly racing into the first bend having to be steadied.
KOWHAI NUGGET - crowded and broke passing the 1100m losing ground.
MIKI BENNETT - weakened final bend hampering a trailing runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than a slightly high heart rate. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
GLENGARRY MOONLIGHT - shifted outwards in the run home. Driver T Chmiel was warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home.
COMMANDER JOE - raced wide early.
WARLOCH - shifted outwards near the 1100m crowding KOWHAI NUGGET which broke. After questioning drivers W House (WARLOCH) and R May (KOWHAI NUGGET) Stewards issued a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) alleging Mr House had driven carelessly when shifting ground outwards when not clear of KOWHAI NUGGET with the hearing being adjourned until the NZ Metropolitan TC meeting on Sunday 14 July.
RAGAZZO MAJOR - raced wide early. Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule when RAGAZZO MAJOR briefly raced four wide passing the 1200m after MIKI BENNETT shifted ground outwards. After viewing the replays it was established that driver T Williams (MIKI BENNETT) had shifted outwards prior to RAGAZZO MAJOR reaching his sulky wheel and no further action was deemed necessary. Hampered by a weakening runner rounding the final bend.
BLACK MACH - raced wide early. Held up rounding the final bend.
Junior driver W House (WARLOCH), who declined assistance from a Senior driver, admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly when shifting ground outwards near the 1100m crowding KOWHAI NUGGET which broke losing ground. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $400.
Race 6   LAMB & HAYWARD HANDICAP TROT
GREENBANK DON - trainer G Smith advised Stewards the gelding has had a hock treated since last racing. Lay outwards throughout the run home.
PAIGE - lay outwards throughout the run home.
GIFT CARD - held up early in the run home.
SIMONE LINDENNY - over-raced middle stages. Weakened leaving the final bend.
GEORGE ELIOT - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
DEL'S CREATION - driver B Orange was issued a warning for being late to arrive at the start area.
Race 7   PROTOCOL RESTAURANT & BAR HANDICAP PACE
BRYCE'S MEDDLE - hampered by a breaking runner at the start.
TANZANIA - broke at the start losing ground hampering an inside runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Over-raced middle stages. Held up until late in the run home.
COMMANDER BEN - over-raced middle stages. Held up final bend and early in the run home.
JORDY - broke at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
STEP IT UP A NOTCH - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
Race 8   DOWNBYTHESEASIDE 'MAKING A SPLASH' MOBILE PACE
TREMENDOUS SENSATION - over-raced throughout causing driver B Orange considerable difficulty. Held up rounding the final bend with the filly's hind leg making contact with the sulky wheel of OBSESSION when becoming awkwardly placed to the inside of that runner with HAPPY HARPER being crowded in consequence. A warning was placed on the racing record of the filly. Driver B Orange advised he would be recommending a change of bit.
OBSESSION - weakened rounding the final bend. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the mare with connections in the coming days.
LILAC LUXURY - raced wide early.
FERNZ GOLDY - held up early in the run home.
OUR SHANGRI LANA - the required veterinary clearance was received. Raced wide early. Held up throughout the run home.
MAJOR SWEETART - paced roughly in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Raced wide from the 700m. Weakened final bend. Driver M Hurrell reported he sustained a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
DANCING DESIRE - raced wide from the 700m. Struck the sulky tyre of MAJOR SWEETART which punctured near the 650m. Junior driver S Thornley (assisted by K Barron) defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he drove carelessly in this incident. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from all parties the Adjudicative Committee found the charge proved and imposed a fine of $200.
HAPPY HARPER - over-raced middle stages. Crowded leaving the final bend. Driver R Close reported he sustained a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
BLACK PEARL - the required veterinary clearance was received.
JUDGEMENT BAY - over-raced middle stages. Hampered leaving the final bend and struck the sulky tyre of HAPPY HARPER.
Race 9   STORER MOTORS MOBILE TROT
HIGH NOON - out of position at the start. Driver S Whatuira was issued a warning. Held up early in the run home.
IMPERIAL COMMAND - held up early in the run home.
PARAMOUNT LADY - over-raced middle stages.
IT'S SO EASY - trotted roughly over the early stages.
HERE COMES JANE - broke leaving the final bend losing all chance.

ITSAMONEYMAKER - began awkwardly.
STYLE COUNCIL - over-raced middle stages.

THE CRAIC - broke at the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
AVENGER - paced roughly at the start. Held up early and middle stages of the run home.
EBURY STREET - trainer T Bamford was issued a warning for being late to notify the mare would be racing without sliding blinds. Crowded at the start.
SKY ROCKET - broke briefly at the start. Over-raced middle stages. Paced roughly in the run home. When questioned regarding the performance driver O Thornley advised the gelding had been unsuited to the tempo of the race and had difficulty making ground after attempting to improve wide on the final bend.
FITZTHEBILL - began awkwardly.
