Race 6 - BRECKON FARMS NORTHERN TROTTING DERBY MOBILE TROT
Stewards concluded the investigation into THE MOONSTONE (P Ferguson) shifting down into the passing lane on straightening for the run home. Mr Ferguson explained that his filly had commenced to weaken and he was mindful of hampering trailing runners so shifted for safety reasons. After considering the matter Stewards took no further action other than to remind Mr Ferguson of his obligations given similar circumstances in the future.

Stewards issued Driver T Cameron a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for failing to affix the gear so as not to come adrift. Weakened final turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
HAWKEYE PIERCE - Driver T Herlihy defended a charge under Rule 869(4)(6)(b)(c) in that he shifted his runner out near the 1200m forcing MAKO to race wider on the track. After viewing the replays and hearing the relative evidence the Adjudicative Committee found the charge proved and imposed a fine of $200. Raced fiercely for a distance passing the 1000m when being steadied to take a trail.
NEXT LEVEL - raced wide early stages before being restrained to the rear.

SHAKE A LEG - lay in contacting track markers rounding the final turn.
RED RACKHAM - when questioned regarding the tactics adopted during the middle stages Driver D Butcher stated that he elected not to shift out to lead up the running line prior to being covered near the 1500m as this was the gelding's first run back from a spell and he felt it wouldn't be able to race without cover from that point and be competitive. Mr Butcher further stated that RED RACKHAM had commenced to pull hard on the slow tempo near the 1400m before being able to secure clear running near the 800m but had peaked on its run on the home turn and only battled thereafter. Stewards noted Mr Butcher's comments.

ILSAS SON - raced wide early. Held up final stages of the run home. When questioned regarding her decision not to shift out to lead up the running line prior to being covered near the 1400m Junior Driver M Ranger (assisted by S Phelan) stated that she had been instructed to save the gelding for one run in what was its first race back from a lengthy spell. Ms Ranger further stated that after working early when able to improve wide she then felt her best option was to remain on the marker line rather than risk being caught without cover for the remainder of the event. Co-trainer S Phelan confirmed the instructions and advised that these were as a result of the gelding only performing moderately in a recent trial and expected that this runner would derive considerable benefit from the race. Stewards noted the respective comments.

After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Ms Wigg driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 5 July 2024 (4 days).
