Race Comments

Race 1   DUNSTAN HORSEFEEDS JNR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE
BENJAMIN BUTTON - raced in restricted room leaving the back straight the final time and had to be steadied passing the 400m. It was established that Drivers D Grundmann (BENJAMIN BUTTON) and N Delany (BAILEYS PITCH ) had both shifted ground simultaneously to attempt to take up a position in the running line with blame unable to be solely attributed to either driver. Held up early stages of the run home.
CAROLINA MOON - raced wide early before being restrained towards the rear.

XCITE ME - tended to shift out under pressure in the run home. Driver S Wigg admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein regulations in that she used her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $500.
IMA SPORTYANGEL - broke late in the score up then settled briefly before breaking again shortly after the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier manners. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied this runner had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation in the early stages. Driver D Ferguson reported that the mare cast the off fore shoe at the start.
GWENDOLINE MARY - weakened in the run home.
TRUCKING ON - broke shortly after the start but soon settled. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Lay in at various stages and in particular late in the run home when weakening.

ULTIMATE MOMENT - late scratching at 9.15am on veterinary advice.
PATRICK MAHOMES - held up over the final stages of the run home. When questioned regarding his decision not to shift wide early in the home straight to secure clear running Driver Z Butcher stated that the gelding had lay in rounding the turn when he activated the deafeners and improved to the inside of RUBY RIDGE which he had been trailing so he felt his best option then was to look for a run through the middle rather than lose momentum by attempting to restrain and come around that runner. Stewards noted Mr Butcher's comments and took the matter no further.
LUBY LILL - shifted out marginally on straightening for the run home.
RUBY RIDGE - broke for several strides at the start.
HIGHVIEW ROCKN ROLL - broke rounding the first turn losing its chance. A warning was placed on the mare's racing manners.

SASSY STAR - had some difficulty obtaining clear running early in the home straight. When questioned regarding his apparent lack of vigour Driver T Macfarlane explained that the mare had been galloping in recent trials and at its previous start after having joined Trainer S Cornwall's stable and as a result he had been reluctant to place this runner under undue pressure. Mr Macfarlane further advised that he would not carry a whip with the mare in the immediate future. SASSY STAR was cleared from the unruly for stands at the request of connections.
