At an adjourned hearing on 19 April, driver T Grant (GEORGE ELIOT) defended a charge under Rule 868(2) alleging he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible finishing place by failing to show sufficient vigour in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence, the Adjudicative Committee reserved their decision.

Race 7 - NIGHT 'N DAY PARK TIMARU MOBILE PACE
Driver L Dobbs (BETTERTHANDIVA) admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip free of the rein, with more than a wrist flicking motion and when out of contention in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions, the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Dobbs' driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 28 April up to and including 5 May 2024 (3 days).

FORGIVENESS - underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Driver P Nairn was questioned regarding his apparent lack of vigour in the run home and after hearing his explanation, Stewards issued a charge under Rule 868(2) in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to win the race when failing to show sufficient vigour in the run home. Mr Nairn defended the charge and after viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and Mr Nairn, the Adjudicative Committee found the charge proved. After submissions on penalty Mr Nairn's driver's licence was suspended from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 17 May 2024 (10 days).
DIAMOND HARBOUR - trotted roughly in the early stages losing ground. Continued to trot roughly through the middle stages. Broke near the 900m losing all chance. Driver C Thornley reported the mare cast the right front shoe during the running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed possible foot soreness. Trainer K James advised the horse would be treated prior to resuming.
DANCING GLENIS - driver R Anderson was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
IMPERIAL COMMAND - back from the unruly position at the start.
MOONLIGHT ANGEL - cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
SOLEMN SON - raced wide early. Cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
Race 3   MAJESTIC HORSE FLOATS PACE
The start was delayed due to the overcheck on PACIFIC THUNDER requiring attention.
HEAVEN - trainer K James was issued a warning for presenting the gelding to race without the notified blinds.
SPIRIT OF GOD - fractious prior to the start.
BETSY MAY - broke at the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
SISTER LOVE - fractious prior to the start. Crowded by an outside runner near the 1450m after racing greenly when being restrained to obtain cover. The near side number detached during the running.
PACIFIC THUNDER - broke at the start losing ground. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts.
KAIRAKI DELIGHT - briefly locked wheels with ARI ON SAFARI near the 1800m. Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule near the 1800m when BIGGLES shifted ground outwards as KAIRAKI DELIGHT was improving wide on the track. After viewing the replays it was established that driver R May (BIGGLES) had commenced his outward movement prior to KAIRAKI DELIGHT reaching his sulky wheel and accordingly no further action was required.
ARI ON SAFARI - hampered at the start. Raced wide early. Briefly locked wheels with KAIRAKI DELIGHT near the 1800m. Shifted inwards near the 1450m crowding an inside runner. Driver G O'Reilly was issued a warning to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
MAID OF THE MOUNTAIN - shied as the start was effected and shifted inwards hampering an inside runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Weakened leaving the final bend.
KELTIC TIGER - held up leaving the final bend and early in the run home.
FAREWELL SPIT - paced roughly in the run home.
LADY VINCENT - broke briefly at the start losing ground.
FLYING FOR ME - broke briefly at the start losing ground.

STAR INVASION - broke at the start losing all chance. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts at the request of trainer A Lethaby.
TRIPPY TYRON - broke after 200m losing all chance.
SAXON REIGNS - broke near the 200m losing its chance. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming.
SPOTLIGHT - back from position at the start. Driver W House was advised to make a greater effort to take up his correct barrier position. Slow in the early stages losing ground. Trotted roughly rounding the final bend again losing ground.
MY ROYAL BREAK - broke briefly at the start.
KAMILLA - raced greenly near the 900m.
HEARTBREAK HOTEL - broke after 200m losing all chance.
ROCKY IN PARADISE - broke shortly after the start and continued on in a break despite the efforts of driver K Butt for a considerable distance losing all chance and was retired from the race. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion from a standing start prior to resuming.
Race 5   ROSEBANK LIFE CARE FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
OAKLEY SHARD - refused to leave the pre-race formation with Starter R Donnelly declaring a false start after the filly had become dangerously placed on the inside of the track. Declared a late scratching under Rule 213(1)(e) due to unsatisfactory manners prior to the start. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion from a mobile start prior to resuming.
RAKERO CHASE - paced roughly and broke racing into the first bend checking a trailing runner losing ground. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare. Driver G Smith advised he would be recommending gear changes.
DOUBLE QUICK - raced wide early. Checked by a breaking runner racing into the first bend and was forced wider on the track. Paced roughly over the concluding stages.
KID GLOVES - raced wide early.
CHAMPAGNE NEN - broke late in the score up and was out of position at the start. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts. Hung inwards final bend and in the run home causing driver R May some difficulty.
PHAR LUME - held up late in the run home.

BLACK PEARL - lay inwards in the run home crowding an inside runner. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off front leg. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.

APATCHOFGOLD - lay outwards in the run home. Driver J Curtin advised he did not activate the removable deafeners and sliding blinds in consequence.
FITZTHEBILL - driver B Orange was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
ITSAMONEYMAKER - when questioned regarding the improved performance the connections advised the gelding had benefited from a more economical run today.
A DANCING ROCKA - raced wide early. Driver C DeFilippi was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
HAZER - raced wide early.
PLAYING WITH STARS - raced wider on the track near the 1300m. Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule when PLAYING WITH STARS raced wider on the track. After viewing the replays it was established that driver K Cameron (STYLE COUNCIL) had commenced his outward movement prior to PLAYING WITH STARS reaching his sulky wheel and accordingly no further action was required.
SZYBKA LANE - held up throughout the run home. Driver J Cox advised he did not activate the sliding blinds in consequence.
HE'S A BAY - driver S Thornley advised he accidentally dropped his whip near the 300m.
Race 10   COHESIVE CONSTRUCTION TROT
PRACTICAL MAGIC - tangled away. Broke near the 250m and continued on in a break despite the efforts of driver B Orange.
ROYAL DEL - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
WESTAR MILLY - held up early in the run home. Driver B Hope defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he drove carelessly when shifting ground near the 250m checking DOWNTOWN ORLANDO (R Jenkins) which broke with the trailing ROYAL YANKEE also being crowded and striking a track marker. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and driver R Jenkins, Mr Hope elected to change his plea and admit the charge. After penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Hope's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 1 May 2024 (3 days).
ROYAL YANKEE - crowded and struck a track marker near the 250m.
BONNIE BAGRIE - raced wide early.
DOWNTOWN ORLANDO - checked and broke near the 250m losing all chance.
