Race 1   HERB STENT PATRON HANDICAP TROT
HENRIK LUNDQVIST - broke rounding the first turn when leading losing considerable ground. Broke on two more occasions racing down the back the final time when trailing the field. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
MR MONTY - broke near the 120m. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
OUR PEGASUS PEARL - Driver A Poutama reported that he had not activated the deafeners due to having the field covered.
PLAY FOOTSIE - broke at the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier manners. Weakened from the 600m.
KISS MY PIXEL - Driver G Martin reported that he had been unable to release the deafeners and only one sliding blind had activated after a clip on the release cord broke.
ALANA - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
PRINCE ENVY - raced wide early before improving to the lead near the 2000m. Lay in rounding the turns and in particular the final turn when weakening, contacting numerous track markers. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. Trainer F Mitchell advised he would be making gear changes for the second day.
Race 2   CARTOWN COUNTRY CUP HANDICAP TROT
SWEET OLIVIA - swung outwards at the start however began safely. Lay out approaching the final turn losing ground, then continued to lay out in the home straight.
HUGHIE WALLACE - broke at the start losing ground.
SLAINTE - broke briefly passing the 250m losing ground.
RUN FOREST RUN - broke at the start losing all chance. A final warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners.
CASTANA - when questioned regarding the performance Driver B Butcher stated that the gelding had been chasing throughout given the strong tempo after starting from a 30m handicap.
MANCHESTER IN TIME - lost ground near the 1600m and trailed the field thereafter. When questioned regarding the performance Driver S Abernethy stated that he had been unable to make up ground from the 30m handicap due to the fast tempo being set. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormality.
Race 3   BARRY'S TACKY TOURS MOBILE PACE
EXHILARATE - Driver B Butcher reported that he had been unable to release the deafeners and only one sliding blind activated after a clip on the release cord broke.
FREDASTAIRE - raced wide rounding the first turn. Over-raced when in the parked position middle stages.
BET ON POLLY - broke near the 300m losing ground.
MORERE - Driver W House reported that a sulky tyre had deflated in the run home.
ICE FAIRY - over-raced through the middle stages.
BLAZE MAGUIRE - weakened final turn. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing performance.
Race 4   OUTBACK TRADING MOBILE PACE
SHARKNTATTIES - over-raced when being restrained to take cover rounding the first turn. Commenced to weaken from the 400m hampering a trailing runner.
MILLION DOLLAR CHIC - hampered by a weakening runner rounding the final turn.
XCITE ME - Driver S Wigg was warned for using her whip free of the rein on one occasion in the run home. Ms Wigg reported she had been unable to release the deafeners due to the cord becoming entangled.
MAPUA MISSIE - back from position throughout the score up. When questioned Driver J Dickie advised that he had been cautious given this runner's performance over the early stages at its previous start when going to kick and as a result had been reluctant to chase the mare up to be fully in position. Stewards took the matter no further other than to remind Mr Dickie of his obligations.
MISS WOODVILLE - late scratching on Veterinary advice at 3.19pm when found to be heavily in season.
Race 5   ITM MOBILE PACE
CAROLINA MOON - over-raced when being steadied to take cover on two occasions racing down the back the first time.
BETTOR GRUNTER - out of position at the start. Driver T Mitchell was issued with a warning for failing to maintain his barrier position. When questioned regarding the performance Mr Mitchell stated that the gelding was not suited to the stop start nature of today's race. Mr Mitchell further advised that he had been unable to release the deafeners due to the cord breaking.
DOM TORETTO - raced wide early.
BEACH PARTY - raced wide through the early and middle stages. Commenced to weaken near the 500m.
Race 6   T MARKET FRESH COUNTRY CUP HANDICAP PACE
HESASHORETHING - broke at the start and galloped for a considerable distance losing all chance. A warning was placed on the horse's barrier manners.
CLEAR LEFT - broke briefly shortly after the start losing ground. Hampered by a breaking runner rounding the first turn losing ground.
ROCK BAND - paced roughly entering the first turn and then broke hampering a trailing runner and lost all chance. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial prior to resuming.
NEW YORK MINUTE - swung inwards at the start then broke briefly losing ground.
Race 7   C A PENNY F & M THURSDAY $18,000 MOBILE PACE
DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER - when questioned regarding the performance Driver T Mitchell stated that the mare had been required to work early to cross to the lead near the 1500m and then received mid-race pressure when CAULFIELD came forward in search of the parked position.
RUN MASON RUN - when questioned regarding the tactics he adopted during the middle stages when electing to hold the parked position Driver S Abernethy stated that the gelding had performed well when driven in a similar manner previously and felt that CAULFIELD did not appear to be travelling well enough to warrant taking a trail on that runner. Mr Abernethy further stated that RUN MASON RUN had battled on strongly over the final stages to finish close up to the placegetters.
FRANCO HOFFMAN - held up until near the 50m.
STANLEY'S RULE - hampered by a breaking runner near the 900m.
CAULFIELD - raced wide through the early stages before being restrained to the rear. Raced wide without cover from the 1150m when unable to obtain the position outside the leader which was being held by RUN MASON RUN.
HAIL LUCIUS - broke passing the 900m hampering trailing runners. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. Broke again passing the 200m.
MOLLY BELWIN - hampered by a breaking runner near the 900m.
EASTWOOD DREAM - hampered by a breaking runner near the 900m.
Race 8   PAPAIOEA MOBILE PACE
ROCKAFILLY - broke in the score up losing all chance. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier manners.
UNCLE DREW - late scratching on Veterinary advice at 9.01am.
TOMALOU - shifted out entering the first turn despite the efforts of Driver N Chilcott hampering an outside runner. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. Over-raced throughout proving difficult at various stages.
RAKERO SCOTTY - paced roughly shortly after the start. Hampered by an inside runner entering the first turn and broke losing all chance.
HA'PENNY - paced roughly passing the 100m after contacting the sulky wheel of LORD DELMAR when racing erratically. Driver A Poutama confirmed that the mare had turned its head both ways at various stages during the running and would be recommending a gear change to connections.
Race 9   HILLTOP BAR & RESTAURANT MOBILE PACE
BAILEYS PITCH - paced roughly for several strides near the 300m when EDDIE OSEI shifted ground to its inside, hampering two trailing runners. When questioned regarding the performance Driver T Mitchell could offer no explanation for the disappointing run. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormality. Stewards will follow up with Trainer S Doody prior to the second day.
EDDIE OSEI - Driver Z Meredith was warned for the manner in which he shifted ground near the 300m. It was noted that this runner slipped its overcheck during the running.
STEALERS WHEEL - lay out approaching the 1000m. Had to be steadied near the 900m. Hampered briefly near the 300m.
THE ELITE ATHLETE - hampered briefly near the 300m.
