Race 1   NZ CHEESE FESTIVAL 9TH MARCH BUY TICKETS NOW HCP TROT
COOL PHELAN - broke shortly after the start hampering a trailing runner losing considerable ground. Forced wider on the track near the 1100m and raced wide for some distance. Weakened final turn.
MAZEPPA - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Broke passing the 1000m after contacting the sulky wheel of ALANA and lost its chance. Driver L Chin admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly in this incident. After hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Dr Chin's Driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 9 February 2024 (3 days).
KIMKAR DASH - Junior Driver N Balle, assisted by D Balle, admitted a charge under Rule 869(4)(6)(b)(c) in that she shifted her mare outwards near the 1100m forcing COOL PHELAN to race wider. After hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $200.
YUROK - weakened in the run home.
Race 2   CLUBHOUSE SPORTS BAR MOBILE PACE
IDEAL ARTS - approval was given for the blinds to be removed after the gelding failed to warm up favourably. Raced lethargically in the score up and was back from position at the start despite the efforts of Driver M McKendry. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Weakened from the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Stood down pending a satisfactory trial. Mr McKendry reported that the gelding had cast the off front shoe during the running.
SPIRIT OF WAIHEKE - raced wide early before being restrained towards the rear.
CAROLINA MOON - hampered late in the score up and was back a length at dispatch. Stewards were satisfied that this had not materially prejudiced the mare's chances. Weakened in the run home.
CRACKER ROCK - paced roughly under pressure late in the run home.
SHEZ THE ONE - held up early final turn.
Race 3   NZB STANDARDBRED YEARLING SALES 18-21 FEB HCP TROT
TOPAZ CASTLETON - mixed its gait shortly after the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier manners.
SUNNY ROBINSON - broke rounding the first turn losing all chance.
ITBETTERBENOW - broke passing the 100m losing ground before settling. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation.
HELSINGOR - delayed the start when displaying poor barrier manners. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Weakened final turn.
PATRICK MAHOMES - broke at the start losing all chance.
ROSSELLINI - broke passing the 1100m losing its chance.
KD CREATION - broke at the start losing all chance.
Race 4   HYGAIN REVELL DOUGLAS MEMORIAL SERIES 2024 HEAT 1 MOB PACE
GOD DAM - over-raced middle stages. Briefly inconvenienced by a weakening runner rounding the final turn. Lay in and contacted track markers approaching the 200m.
STACEY MARIE - commenced to weaken near the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
MEDINA MAGIC - commenced to weaken passing the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed moderate lameness to the off hind. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
Race 5   OFF THE TRACK FOOD AND BEV MOBILE PACE
BUGALUGS - disappointed for a run to the inside of TICKING OVER in the passing lane early in the home straight.
BEAUDIENE ROCKNROLL - broke in the score up and was back from position at dispatch. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners.
SHARKIES GIRL - Driver S Burley reported that she did not activate the deafeners due to having the field covered.
D J ROCK - Co-trainers S & A Telfer were warned for the late notification of Driver J Dickie. Broke shortly after the start losing ground before settling. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners.
Race 6   DUNSTAN HORSEFEEDS WAIKATO TROTTING BREEDERS STAKES HCP TROT
MONARCH HILL - broke rounding the first turn and galloped for a distance losing considerable ground. Broke again near the 400m losing its chance.
BANGKOK BETTY - broke near the 400m losing its chance.
JASINOVA - broke shortly after the start hampering an outside runner before being taken clear of the field and lost all chance. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts.
RUBY RIDGE - Co-trainers P & V Blanchard were issued with a warning for presenting the mare to race without the notified pacifier which was added prior to the start. Raced wide early.
KISS AND RUN - raced keenly middle stages when leading.
IT AIN'T ME BABE - pre-raced warmed. Raced wide early. Stewards investigated an incident near the 2000m where IT AIN'T ME BABE was obliged to race three wide briefly when racing to the outside of BANGKOK BETTY. It was established that CON GRAZIA LOVE had sufficient room to improve to the inside of BANGKOK BETTY which meant that Driver J Abernethy had little option other than to follow MELSADELE when that runner shifted out into the running line which resulted in IT AIN'T ME BABE being caught three wide briefly. Given the circumstances no further action was deemed necessary.
CON GRAZIA LOVE - broke rounding the first turn losing ground. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that this runner had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation. Lay in rounding the turns and in particular the final turn when contacting track markers near the 200m. A warning was placed on the mare's racing manners.
SUNNYS SISTER - broke at the start losing considerable ground. When questioned Driver J Dunn stated that the mare had got too far back in the running after having missed away at the start and that he felt it hadn't been a viable option to improve mid-race given the ground lost early.
SACRED MOUNTAIN - re-handicapped to 40m following its win at Auckland on the 26 January 2024.
RESOLVE - broke near the 300m losing its chance.
