In addition to this Stewards were comfortably satisfied that the interference caused to ACENTO had not affected its chances of finishing ahead of JUST ASK PADDY. Shortly after the finish, JUST ASK PADDY stumbled and fell to the track checking the trailing DENNIS DENUTO and FRANCO MESSI and dislodging driver G Thornley from the sulky who struck the running rail. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be uninjured. Miss Thornley was examined by the St John Ambulance Paramedics and found to be uninjured in this incident and cleared to fulfill her remaining driving engagements. JUST ASK PADDY was withdrawn from the second day and stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming. Miss Thornley, assisted by senior driver Mr J Dunn, was warned for the manner in which she used her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion prior to the winning post. Miss Thornley was then shown a replay for educational proposes with Mr Dunn and whilst Stewards accepted that her actions were intended to ensure the safety of horses and drivers to her outside, she was advised that in similar circumstances she would be expected to use alternative measures when attempting to restrain her horse.
