Race 6 - GLUYAS MOTORS (JUNIOR DRIVER) MOBILE PACE
Junior driver D van Til (assisted by J Dunn) admitted a breach of Rule 868(2) in that she failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure KNOCKSHANBALLY was given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible finishing position. After hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Miss van Til's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 26 January up to and including 9 February 2024 (5 days).

Race 8 - DAVID REID HOMES WAITAKI - SOUTH CANTERBURY MOBILE PACE
On 15 January the Adjudicative Committee issued their decision in relation to a defended charge under Rule 869(3)(f) against driver B Williamson (TABASCO) heard at the Wyndham HRC meeting on 6 January 2024. The Adjudicative Committee dismissed the charge of Improper driving.

THE GARDENER'S PRIDE - weakened rounding the final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver S O'Reilly was unable to provide any explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
ROLLIE IN SHOT - weakened from the 700m. When questioned regarding the performance driver J Dunn was unable to provide any explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
BRIANNA - over-raced early stages.
ONE EL - lay inwards over the concluding stages despite the efforts of driver J Curtin.
TO HILL AND BACK - trotted roughly in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
Race 2   POPLAR FLAT FARM PACE
NORWEST FRANCO - fractious prior to the start. Weakened from the 500m.
HEAVEN - placed in restricted room shortly after the start when outside runners shifted in. Weakened from the 800m. Driver G O'Reilly advised he sustained a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
MORERE - broke briefly at the start.
NETRA - slow to begin.
FESTUS HAGGEN - held up early in the run home.
CHEEKY RED - shifted inwards shortly after the start placing an inside runner in restricted room. Driver L McCormick was warned for the manner in which he drove when shifting ground.
I SPY DIAMONDS - over-raced middle stages.
IGETAKICKOUTOFYOU - paced roughly entering the first bend losing ground.
Race 3   RED PARK FARM MOBILE PACE
A false start was declared when WAIKARI BARB broke in the score up and shifted outwards checking LILY'S A STAR. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Driver T Williams elected to remain in his allocated barrier position for the restart.
There was a further delay to the start when DULCINEA required a replacement sulky.
DULCINEA - held up early in the run home,
COSMIC STAR - raced wide early. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 500m.
WAIKARI BARB - weakened in the run home. Driver T Williams advised he received a punctured sulky tyre in the running.
LILY'S A STAR - raced wide without cover from the 1100m. Weakened final bend.
CAPTAIN FANTASTIC - broke shortly after the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
FULHAM JIVE - held up early in the run home before striking the sulky wheel of WAIKARI BARB near the 200m which punctured. Stewards questioned Driver R Holmes (FULHAM JIVE) regarding this who advised his horse had commenced to race fiercely when being held up early in the run home by the weakening WAIKARI BARB and had hung inwards causing him difficulty when he attempted to shift wider on the track near the 200m to obtain clear running resulting in his runner striking the wheel. After viewing the films which supported Mr Holmes' explanation, Stewards took the matter no further.
SHAPELY - broke shortly after the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
THE BETTOR MAJOR - raced wide with cover from the 1100m. Broke near the 500m hampering a trailing runner losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
Race 4   KEVIN McCORMICK DECORATING MOBILE PACE
NOT OVER - when questioned regarding the improved performance driver R Close reported the gelding had benefited from an economical run throughout.
JULIETTE SHARD - briefly raced in the passing lane shortly after the start when racing to the inside of CHANGEAROUND. After viewing the films driver B Hope was spoken to advisedly after it was established that CHANGEAROUND had commenced to move inwards prior to JULIETTE SHARD reaching his wheel. Held up early in the run home.
BARNSTORMER - when questioned regarding the performance driver J Morrison advised he was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation.
FOLLOW ME FANTASY - over-raced middle stages.
Race 5   TREKKING AFTER RACING TROT
GRANNY ROSE - broke briefly at the start.
RACHMANINOV - lay inwards over the concluding stages placing an inside runner in restricted room near the 50m. Despite the horse laying inwards, driver T Grant was warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home.
EYRE I WILL - placed in restricted room near the 50m by an outside runner.
NAVARA - broke at the start losing ground.
NOAH MAGNIFIC - broke at the start losing ground.
TOM BRADY - hampered by a breaking runner after 100m.
SASSY STAR - checked and broke after 100m losing considerable ground.
TAKE NOTICE - broke after 100m checking and hampering trailing runners. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Lay inwards after being shifted wider on the track near the 850m having to be steadied.
WHO'S QUEEN - broke at the start losing ground. A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Authorisation of 1st placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the mare had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation in the early stages.
Race 6   MAINLAND REPAIRS PACE
A false start was declared when AMERICANO was fractious and became positioned through the barrier strand prior to release. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
MEGAROCK - late onto the track after requiring farrier attention.
AMERICANO - paced roughly rounding the first bend.
DON'T TELL JENNY - gave ground over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the performance driver C Butt advised he was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation.
IZACHEAPEE - began awkwardly.
STUBING - held up early in the run home.
LADY BOUTIQUE - late onto the track after requiring farrier attention.
Race 7   ROSEBANK LIFE CARE MOBILE TROT
GEORGE ELIOT - when questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver T Grant advised that he elected to follow AIGUILLE near the 800m in a three wide position however this runner had not made ground as expected forcing him to race wider on the track. Mr Grant added that he was pleased with the manner in which the mare had finished off the race.
AIGUILLE - raced wide from the 1100m. Weakened final bend.
CRAZY N LOVE - co-trainers G & N Hope were issued a warning for presenting CRAZY N LOVE and TORVI with the incorrect saddlecloth numbers. Raced wide until reaching the parked position near the 900m. Weakened leaving the final bend.
TORVI - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver R May. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Raced wide early.
ALDEBARAN FLOSS - driver S Ottley reported the removable deafeners and sliding blinds were not activated due to having the field covered. When questioned regarding the improved performance trainer M Swain advised the mare had been suited by a return to mobile racing. Mrs Swain also advised the mare had been having seasonal complaints and had been served with this information having been previously notified to Stewards.
SILVERLININGS - broke after 100m losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Trotted roughly before breaking again over the concluding stages.
Race 8   PHILIPS FAMILY JUNIOR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE
FOVEAUX GAMBLER - hampered by a slight easing of the pace near the 1700m. Held up by a weakening runner near the 600m. Driver H Sail reported the sliding blinds were not activated due to the cord becoming entangled.
GLIDING HIGH - weakened passing the 600m.
BETTER FLY - raced wide early. Weakened from the 600m hampering trailing runners.
HIT THE BEACH - hampered by a breaking runner near the 500m.
SOPHIA BROMAC - raced wide early. Junior driver A Fitzgerald, who declined assistance from a Senior driver, admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Fitzgerald's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 21 January 2024 (2 days). Mr Fitzgerald was also spoken to advisedly regarding loose reining.
MIGHTY REACTOR - held up by a weakening runner near the 600m.
MILOU - lay in and struck a track marker near the 1300m.
JAZZY STYX - held up by a weakening runner near the 600m.
STAR MAGIC - trainer G Smith was charged a $25 colour fee. Hampered by a slight easing of the pace near the 1700m. Raced wide from the 800m. Broke near the 500m hampering an outside runner losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
BETTERWITHBLING - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer J Wederell advised the gelding had benefited from a brief freshen up and a drop in class today from previous races. Mr Wederell added the horse had also been suited by the positive drive.
Race 9   FIONA STUART MEMORIAL FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
LILAC LUXURY -broke briefly near the 40m after laying in and becoming awkwardly placed close to the sulky of TIGER TAYLOR.
SZYBKA LANE - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
CYREN SHARD - raced roughly when being forced wider on the track near the 800m. Connections requested a post-race veterinary examination after the mare returned to the stabling area with a laceration to the right fore pastern which was treated. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
Race 10   BILL DOYLE MEMORIAL HANDICAP TROT
SONOMA TYRON - broke at the start losing ground.
LOOKSLIKEATRIXTER - broke briefly at the start.
BELLEROPHONTE - trotted roughly over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully driven out by driver R May. Mr May was warned for the manner in which he eased the pace near the 2100m.
HERE COMES JANE - broke at the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
BEAT THE COVID - broke after 100m losing all chance. A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
VERTIGO - hampered by an easing of the pace near the 2100m. Broke near the 2000m losing all chance.
Race 11   WATTLE GROVE FARM MOBILE PACE
TREMENDOUS LOVER - locked wheels with BUILT FOR GLORY when both runners shifted ground marginally near the 75m.
LORD FANTASY - over-raced early stages when being restrained to the rear of the field.
BUILT FOR GLORY - lay inwards near the 200m having to be steadied by driver T Williams. Locked wheels with TREMENDOUS LOVER when both runners shifted ground marginally near the 75m. The connections of TREMENDOUS LOVER (B Hope) placed 2nd, lodged a protest against 1st placing being awarded to BUILT FOR GLORY under Rule 869A(2) alleging interference in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from all parties, the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the protest.
