IMPERIAL MAN - switched to a pace in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Paced again shortly after the start and continued for a considerable distance before being broken up by driver T Nally near the 700m to return to its correct gait hampering trailing runners and losing its chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Junior driver T Nally, assisted by C Ferguson was shown the replays and questioned to as to why he allowed the gelding to pace for approximately 900m before taking any corrective action to return the horse to its correct gait. After hearing from Mr Nally, Stewards issued a charge under Rule 869(3)(a), which Mr Nally admitted, in that he drove incompetently at this stage of the race. After viewing replays and considering submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Nally's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including the 2nd February (7 days). Mr Nally was also spoken to advisedly with regard to restraining his runner resulting in trailing runners being hampered, when the better option was to take his horse clear of the field. | |
