A random selection of drivers underwent alcohol breath testing today with all providing clear samples. MAUI was re-handicapped in Race 11 today to the Unruly (3) position on 10 metres after winning at the Roxburgh meeting on the 4th January.

Race 8 - DAVID REID HOMES WAITAKI - SOUTH CANTERBURY MOBILE PACE
At a reconvened hearing driver B Williamson (TABASCO) defended a charge under Rule 869(3)(f) alleging that he drove improperly near the 1650m when restraining his runner which allowed an outside runner to take up a position in the one out line. After viewing replays and hearing evidence from all parties the Adjudicative Committee reserved their decision.

Trainer R Austin advised Stewards on 6 January that IDLE STUARTIA has recovered well following its last start and has been working well in preparation for racing at Banks Peninsula on the 7th January. Mr Austin added that the mare had been having seasonal complaints since failing to get in foal.

Trainer M Smolenski advised Stewards on 6 January that blood tests taken from LOUIS has failed to reveal any abnormalities and the gelding has been working well in preparation for racing at Banks Peninsula on the 7th January.

F2yC6E723m0 The start was initially delayed due to KENNY'S MATE requiring attention to its sulky after being fractious and was sent to the Unruly position by the Starter where the gelding will remain for future standing starts.
The start was further delayed when a number of horses displayed poor barrier manners.
GET ALONG - lay in and struck a track marker rounding the final bend.
STORM CLOUD - struck a track marker racing into the first bend.
BROWN EYED GIRL - fractious prior to the start and refused to trot away with the field then broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
KENNY'S MATE - fractious prior to the start getting the sulky shaft over its rump as the tapes were released. Following the race authorisation of placings were withheld until Stewards reviewed the footage and acting under Rule 213(1)(e) declared KENNY'S MATE a non-runner due to unsatisfactory manners prior to the start.
HENNESSY - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
MADISON'S MOON - broke after 200m. Broke again near the 1200m losing all chance.

SCRUFFY - broke as the start was effected losing ground. Placed on the Unruly for future mobile starts. Authorisation of this runner's promoted 3rd placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation.
A MAJOR STARR - broke briefly at the start losing ground. A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
HOOROO - broke near the 180m and continued for some distance. Stewards lodged a protest against 3rd placing being awarded to the mare under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging HOOROO had broken in excess of 50m inside the final 200m. After viewing the replays trainer J Cox did not contest the protest and HOOROO was disqualified by the Stewards.

Following the race authorisation of placings was withheld until Stewards reviewed the footage of the start and acting under Rule 213(1)(e) declared LIVY DESMA a non-runner due to unsatisfactory manners.
