Connections advised Stewards on 1 January that a subsequent veterinary examination of UNICO VACANZA revealed the mare to have an entrapped epiglottis and would undergo surgery in the coming days to rectify the issue.
Race 10 - APPAREL MASTERS MOBILE PACE
Stewards spoke to driver B Hope (PURE COURAGE) regarding locking wheels with RUBY'S A DELIGHT near the 900m and after hearing his explanation Mr Hope was warned to exercise greater care when shifting ground.

Race 1   NORTH CANTERBURY TROTTING TROT
ONE EL - trotted roughly in the run home.
IMPERIAL COMMAND - broke early in the score up before settling. Broke again late in the score up after contacting the barrier arm despite the efforts of driver A Clark losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Mr Clark advised he would be making changes to the gelding's overcheck prior to resuming.
ROLLIE IN SHOT - trotted roughly shortly after the start. Again trotted roughly rounding the first bend before breaking hampering a trailing runner and losing all chance.
THE GARDENER'S PRIDE - lay inwards near the 1500m striking a track marker.
GEORGE ELIOT - driver T Grant advised the removable deafeners were not activated due to having the field covered.
HAYLEY MHOR - broke late in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the mare had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation in the early stages. Trainer J Stormont advised he would be making changes to the horse's bit for future races.
MUSICAL TRIX - hampered by a breaking runner rounding the first bend. Broke near the 600m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare. Trainer/driver P Wakelin advised the mare had struck itself causing it to break and she would be considering gear changes prior to racing next.
Race 2   BETAVET MOBILE PACE
DOVER TERRACE - gave ground rounding the final bend hampering trailing runners.
CAPTAIN FANTASTIC - hampered final bend by a weakening runner. Held up early in the run home.
ELEPHANTINTHEROOM - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer B Weaver advised the gelding had appreciated a favourable barrier draw and had received an economical run throughout close to the pace.
MORERE - hampered final bend by a weakening runner.
AMBLESIDE DRIVE - when questioned regarding the performance co-trainer P Robertson advised he was very disappointed with the effort and the mare will be sent for a spell.
SCARLETT'S LEGACY - trainer G Smith was issued a warning for being late to present the mare on course.
FLYING FOR ME - raced wide early and middle stages.
GOOD TIME BETTY - raced wide early.
MELODY ARDEN - raced wide middle stages before being restrained to the rear of the field near the 1000m. Lay inwards throughout the run home.

I'M ROCKIN - broke shortly after the start hampering a trailing runner losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
LADY BOUTIQUE - broke briefly leaving the final bend and shifted inwards into the passing lane before being corrected by driver J Dunn.
BET ON POLLY - lay outwards and locked wheels with KOTARE KELSO late in the run home.
LUNA DOLCE - paced roughly near the 1500m hampering trailing runners. Broke passing the 1000m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the filly. When questioned regarding the performance driver G O'Reilly advised the filly had paced roughly at various stages throughout and he was disappointed with the effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
FULHAM JIVE - raced wide early. Hampered and broke near the 1500m losing ground. Over-raced middle stages.
CELESTINE - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Again hampered near the 1500m. Weakened leaving the final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Orange advised that despite being hampered on two occasions during the running he was disappointed with the effort of the filly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
KOTARE KELSO - locked wheels with BET ON POLLY late in the run home. Authorisation of 3rd placing was withheld until driver K Newman (BET ON POLLY) placed 4th, had viewed replays of the run home to determine whether he had grounds for a protest after locking wheels with KOTARE KELSO over the concluding stages. After doing so, Mr Newman elected not to proceed with a protest after his horse had contributed by laying outwards.
HENRY WINKLER - out of position at the start. Driver M Smolenski was issued with a warning. Had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home. Mr Smolenski admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion rounding the final bend and in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Smolenski's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 16 January 2024 (2 days).

Race 4   RANGIORA NEW WORLD HANDICAP PACE
MEGAROCK - driver G O'Reilly advised he was unable to activate the sliding blinds due to the cord breaking.
GLIDING HIGH - gave ground rounding the final bend.
HEAVEN - broke at the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Raced wide through the middle stages before being restrained to the rear of the field near the 800m.
STAR MAGIC - held up leaving the final bend and again over the concluding stages.
IZACHEAPEE - connections advised the mare has had its knees treated since last racing. Fractious prior to the start. Driver J Curtin reported the mare had over-raced on occasions during the running.
MIGHTY REACTOR - hung inwards near the 300m striking a track marker despite the efforts of driver S Tomlinson.
Race 5   BOB BUTT RACING STABLES HANDICAP TROT
CRAZY N LOVE - lay inwards striking a track marker near the 1100m.
KD HAWK - held up leaving the final bend and early in the run home.
MAKE MY SUNDON - broke near the 250m losing all chance.
ROYAL DEL - broke shortly after the start losing ground.
IDLE STUARTIA - gave ground leaving the final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Orange was unable to provide any explanation and was disappointed with the effort. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
ALMIGHTY FEAR - over-raced middle stages.
Race 6   KYLE CAMERON RACING STABLES MOBILE PACE
NOT REALLY BLONDE - gave ground from the 500m and lay in under pressure striking several track markers. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
BETTER FLY - over-raced middle stages. Gave ground rounding the final bend.
MILOU - hung inwards and struck a track marker leaving the final bend.
JAZZY STYX - hung inwards and struck a track marker leaving the final bend.
IDEAL DELIGHT - raced wide early.
CARDWELL BAY - when questioned regarding the performance trainer R Todd advised that he was not disappointed considering it was the mare's second start back from a lengthy spell and he expected the horse to continue to show natural improvement from recent racing.
SKY VALE - hampered by a weakening runner for a distance passing the 500m. Driver G Smith reported the mare had over-raced on several occasions during the running.
EMMA'S DELIGHT - cleared from the unruly for future mobile starts.
Race 7   DIAMOND RACING STABLES MOBLE PACE
FERNZ GOLDY - broke early in the score up losing all chance and was retired from the race. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
THE REAL MCCOY - lay inwards early in the run home.
ABSOLUTE DYNAMITE - raced wide early.
TYRION - over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to the rear of the field. Continued to over-race through the middle stages.
HILDA MAUD - over-raced middle stages. Driver R Close was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion leaving the final bend.
Race 8   DAWE CONTRACTING MOBILE PACE
OH NO NANA - gave ground rounding the final bend. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
SOPHIA BROMAC - driver B Hope reported he dropped his whip passing the 100m.
LOUIS - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver L O'Reilly. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts. Raced four wide for a short distance passing the 1600m. Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule near the 1600m after LETHAL SPEED had shifted ground outwards as LOUIS was improving wide on the track. After viewing the replays it was established that driver J Dunn (LETHAL SPEED) had commenced his outwards movement prior to LOUIS reaching his sulky wheel and no further action was required. Gave ground from the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the gelding. Trainer M Smolenski advised he will have blood tests taken from the horse in the coming days and Stewards will follow up the results.
TALIESIN - over-raced middle stages.
REGGIE GOLIGHTLY - gave ground rounding the final bend. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
LETHAL SPEED - lay outwards leaving the final bend when leading and shifted up the track.
FRANCO MESSI - held up by a weakening runner final bend.
CARDI B - raced wide early.
Race 9   THANK YOU GLENN HAMES TROT
The start was delayed due to BEAT THE COVID becoming fractious and refusing to turn into line despite the efforts of driver R Close. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
A false start was declared after BELLEROPHONTE became fractious with the barrier strand failing to clear the front legs of the gelding. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the horse.
NOAH MAGNIFIC - gave ground from the 900m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the mare.
LUNAR ROSA - gave ground from the 1200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the mare. Junior driver W House was warned for using his whip on a runner out of contention.
LOOKSLIKEATRIXTER - raced wide early.

BRYCE'S MEDDLE - briefly locked wheels with CLASSIE LINC which lay outwards near the 900m.
SWEET DIAMOND - raced wide early. Gave ground from the 300m. When questioned regarding the performance driver T Williams could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG prior to completing one satisfactory trial before resuming.
CLASSIE LINC - lay outwards near the 900m and briefly locked wheels with BRYCE'S MEDDLE despite the efforts of driver S Tomlinson. Held up early in the run home.
