Following Race 3 - Stewards requested a ruling from the Adjudicative Committee acting under Rule 211(1)(b) for the removal of assistant judge Mr Olson following information that investments had been placed on track. After hearing from Stewards and Mr Olson the Adjudicative Committee removed the assistant judge for the duration of the day and ordered the appointment of a replacement. Stewards opened and adjourned an information into this matter.

Race 1   SPEIGHT'S HANDICAP TROT
SOLEMN SON - began awkwardly and attempted to buck after a clip on the breast plate detached shortly after the start hampering a trailing runner and was retired from the event. Stood down to trial on one occasion from a standing start to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
ROSE ISLE - broke near the 800m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
BIG AL - held up rounding the final bend.
MIDNIGHT DIAMOND - broke shortly after the start losing ground. Broke again racing into the first bend losing all chance.
KING OF DIAMONDS - broke shortly after the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
SUPERFAST GORSEY - hampered shortly after the start. Trotted roughly when weakening passing the 750m losing all chance. When questioned driver H Sail reported that the gelding had felt lethargic throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
TAKE AFTER ME - broke near the 1500m losing ground. A final warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Authorisation of this runner's 2nd placing was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation when in a break during the middle stages.
MAKE MY DAY - slow through the early stages losing considerable ground. Weakened final bend.
TOM BRADY - broke near the 2200m losing all chance. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
Race 2   REMEMBERING RON CROOK PACE
The start was delayed due to MY SKATJIE becoming fractious and refusing to come into line.
The start was further delayed due to WAIKARI BARB backing away from the frontline tape.
WAIKARI BARB - fractious prior to the start. Broke at the start losing ground. Placed on the Unruly for future standing starts.
I SPY DIAMONDS - held up rounding the final bend and early stages of the run home.
THE TOWN OF LIGHT - broke at the start losing ground. Weakened rounding the final bend.
CORZIN HAVICK - broke at the 750m losing all chance. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
MY SKATJIE - fractious prior to the start. Placed on the Unruly for future standing starts.
MAPUA MISSIE - fractious prior to the start. Broke racing into the first bend losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
MEMORIES N HEAVEN - raced three wide from the 1000m. Weakened leaving the final bend.
KINK - broke after 100m losing all chance. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming. Stable representative P Davis advised he would be restricting the gelding to mobile starts for its immediate racing future.
Race 3   CONCRETE NELSON MOBILE PACE
Track conditions were downgraded to Dead prior to Race 3.
A false start was declared when the mobile gate decelerated in the middle stages of the score up resulting in several runners being checked.
CARRERA KAHU - late scratching on veterinary advice at 8.30am.
HONEST LIES - over-raced in the early stages. Again over-raced when being restrained to obtain cover near the 1250m.
BIG GEE - weakened final bend.
MY SWEET BELLA ROSE - raced greenly near the 1100m striking track markers.
COSMIC STAR - when questioned regarding the performance driver J Dunn expressed his disappointment and could offer no explanation.
IGETAKICKOUTOFYOU - paced roughly middle stages of the run home.
Race 4   BULLER/COAST FLOOR SANDERS MOBILE PACE
PHILADELPHIA FILLY - when questioned regarding the performance driver M Purvis reported that the mare may not have backed up from its previous run on 28 December.
TOWER OF LOVE - weakened final bend.
HES FAST AND FURIOUS - driver J Dunn reported he did not release the hopple shorteners due to the gelding pacing roughly.
FORD RULE - raced wide early. Trainer A Stuart advised that the gelding was showing early signs of a respiratory infection and will be treated in due course.
EVIDENTLY - raced wide early.
FLO MOTION - weakened final bend. Driver S O'Reilly reported that the mare may not have backed up from its previous run on 28 December.
BALTIMORE JILL - over-raced early. Held up rounding the final bend and then had difficulty obtaining clear running throughout the run home. Driver R Close reported he did not activate the removable deafeners as a consequence.
JULIETTE SHARD - broke near the 700m losing its chance after the near front carrier strap came adrift with the horse stepping out of the hopple loop. The gear was inspected and found to have been previously taped as required with the connections deemed not to be at fault.
Race 5   HOTEL REEFTON LIQUOR CENTRE HANDICAP TROT
VINCENZO - late scratching on veterinary advice at 11.52am.
ILLEGAL ALIEN - broke shortly after the start losing ground.
CURATOR - broke after 150m losing considerable ground. Lay inwards near the 1100m striking a track marker. Weakened from the 700m. Driver M Purvis advised the mare had wind sucked during the running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
DD'S SUPER STUART - when questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver C Markham advised that the gelding may be feeling the effects of recent racing.
HERE COMES JANE - raced greenly passing the 1700m. Lay inwards rounding the final bend and struck track markers.
PATRICK SWAYZE - broke at the start losing ground. Lay inwards near the 1400m striking track markers. Again lay inwards rounding the final bend and struck track markers.
BELLA LINDENNY - broke shortly after the start losing ground.
GINAS MAJESTY - lay inwards entering the first bend and struck a track marker.
CAPPAHA - broke passing the 1600m losing ground.
STEELINTHEHEEL - slow to begin then broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
OPAWA PEAK - lay inwards near the 1100m striking a track marker.
Race 6   LANTERN COURT MOTEL PACE
A false start was declared at the first attempt when the Starter was not satisfied with the manner that the runners had addressed the barriers.
ARCHIE - raced wide from the 700m.
WEBS REACTOR - weakened from the 800m. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
GOD OF THUNDER - reared prior to the tapes being released and was still in the air as the start was effected checking an outside runner. Placed on the Unruly for future standing starts. Following the race Stewards reviewed the footage of the start and declared GOD OF THUNDER a late scratching under Rule 213(1)(e) due to unsatisfactory manners prior to the start.
RAPID RESPONSE - checked as the start was effected. Declared a late scratching by the Stewards under Rule 213(1)(j) due to being denied a fair start when checked by an inside runner.
JIMMY ARMA - hampered by a breaking runner and struck a track marker near the 1100m.
EBURY STREET - checked by an inside runner at the first attempt at a start. Shifted outwards in the run home hampering an outside runner. Driver H Sail was advised to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home.
HE'S A JACKALACK - shifted inwards abruptly in the first attempt at a start checking an inside runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Paced roughly racing over the crossing near the 2200m. Broke when negotiating the crossing near the 1100m hampering trailing runners and losing ground. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
BEAUDIENE QUICK STEP - slow to begin. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 1100m.
HE'S A BAY - raced wide from the 700m. Hampered by an inside runner in the run home.
Race 7   DAWSONS HOTEL REEFTON TROTTERS CUP (HANDICAP TROT)
EL CONQUEROR - hung inwards passing the 1100m striking a track marker.
THE BLOSS - over-raced middle stages.
BOYZ INVASION - reared as the start was effected.
PRINCE TEKA - struck a track marker rounding the final bend. Driver K Cameron will be spoken to in the coming days.
TU TANGATA - broke passing the 2200m losing ground. Raced wide without cover from the 800m. Weakened final bend. A post race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with trainer P Nairn in the coming days.
MUSCLE BANK - broke over the early stages. Trotted roughly over the concluding stages. Authorisation of 3rd placing was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied that the mare had crossed the finish line in the correct gait.
Race 8   ROSCO CONTRACTORS REEFTON CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
ASIAN ELVIS - broke briefly shortly after the start.
FIRST ROSE - broke at the start losing ground. Weakened final bend.
SHE'S TOUGH - weakened from the 400m. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Orange advised he was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow recovery and very high heart rate. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
Race 9   PROPERTY BROKERS - LINDA & MARK MOBILE PACE
A false start was declared at the first attempt due to BEEPS refusing to approach the mobile barrier and checking SANTA KLAWS early in the score up. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Driver R Holmes elected to remain in his allocated barrier position for the restart.
JUDGEMENT BAY - lay inwards and struck a track marker rounding the final bend.
KRYSTAL DELIGHT - locked sulky wheels with TREMENDOUS LOVER near the 500m when improving around that runner, losing all chance. Driver M Holbrough was spoken to regarding this, who advised that her runner had been laying in at this point which the films supported. Accordingly Stewards took no further action other than to place a warning on the racing record of KRYSTAL DELIGHT.
TREMENDOUS LOVER - weakened from the 550m and locked sulky wheels with the improving KRYSTAL DELIGHT near the 500m.
HOPE FOR LOVE - raced wide early.
Race 10   APPAREL MASTERS MOBILE PACE
RUBY'S A DELIGHT - locked wheels with PURE COURAGE near the 900m.
PURE COURAGE - over-raced middle stages. Locked wheels with RUBY'S A DELIGHT near the 900m. Driver B Hope will be spoken to regarding this in the coming days. Hampered by a weakening runner near the 400m. Trainer/Driver B Hope was issued with a $100 Minor Infringement Notice after a hopple side carrier came adrift during the running. Mr Hope advised that the removable deafeners had failed to activate due to the cord becoming entangled. Mr Hope also advised that the gelding had been making abnormal breathing noises during the running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
FRANCO HOFFMAN - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1100m.
DENNIS DENUTO - hampered by a weakening runner near the 400m.
DARE DEVIL - hampered by a weakening runner near the 400m.
ITSAMONEYMAKER - compounded from the 400m hampering trailing runners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery and high heart rate. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
EVANGALIST - lay outwards in the run home despite the efforts of driver T Williams.
DANCE WITH THE BOSS - broke when negotiating the crossing near the 1100m hampering FRANCO HOFFMAN.
