Race 1   DONALDSON FAMILY FARM TROT
Prior to Race 1 the track was downgraded to Dead.
ROSE ISLE - broke near the 150m losing all chance.
HIGH NOON - broke shortly after the start losing ground. Broke again when racing over the crossing near the 2100m losing considerable ground.
JUST RICKY - broke at the start losing ground. Weakened final bend. Lay inwards near the 300m crowding an inside runner. The near hind bandage came adrift during the running. Caretaker trainer M Purvis was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for failing to affix the bandage so as not to come adrift.
HERE COMES JANE - lay outwards throughout the run home.
SOLEMN SON - trotted roughly passing the 1600m losing ground. Weakened from the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Connections advised the gelding had failed to handle the track conditions today.
SPIRITINTHESKY - weakened final bend. Crowded by an outside runner near the 300m and struck a track marker.
BELLA LINDENNY - broke rounding the first bend losing ground. Authorisation of 2nd placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the filly had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation in the early stages.
KING OF DIAMONDS - broke at the start losing ground.
Race 2   CRITERION HOTEL PACE
The start was delayed after MY SKATJIE became fractious with the overcheck then requiring attention. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
LUCKY MONEY - trainer D Morrison was warned for presenting the filly to race with blinds which had not been notified. Broke at the start losing ground. Weakened from the 450m. Struck track markers passing the 400m. Driver D Morrison was issued with a warning for contacting track markers.
MY SKATJIE - began awkwardly. Driver C Markham was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion early in the run home.
IFYOUCOULDCWHATIC - broke at the start losing ground. Broke again racing into the first bend losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts at the request of the connections.
PRETTYBOYCOBY - late scratching at 8.30am on Veterinary advice.
MOUTON CADET - broke at the start losing ground. Broke again near the 700m losing all chance and was retired from the race. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
I SPY DIAMONDS - paced roughly passing the 500m.
VITORIA - fractious prior to the start. Weakened from the 600m.
Race 3   TREVOR WILKES/ROSS BURROW MEMORIAL PACE
KINK - slow through the early stages losing ground. Broke near the 400m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
CORZIN HAVICK - broke at the start losing ground. Broke again near the 600m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
Race 4   GRAEME & JOAN McMASTER MOBILE PACE
IGETAKICKOUTOFYOU - broke in the score up losing all chance and was retired from the race. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts. Trainer M Purvis advised he would consider making gear changes prior to racing next.
HI HOPES - driver B Orange advised the removable deafeners were not activated due to having the field covered.
AMALFI - broke rounding the first bend losing ground.
AR GEE RULZ - paced roughly in the early stages losing ground. Shifted outwards abruptly near the 400m despite the efforts of driver B Hope. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
COSMIC STAR - weakened from the 400m. When questioned regarding the performance driver J Dunn advised the gelding had worked hard through the middle stages to improve its position after starting from the unruly with the effort taking its toll. Cleared from the unruly for future mobile starts.
Race 5   AFLEX HOMES/COAST OUTDOORS TROT
GINAS MAJESTY - slow to begin. Driver I Cameron was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
REINDEER TROUBLE - lay inwards near the 1100m striking track markers. Driver J Curtin reported the mare had hung throughout causing him difficulty.
MURANO - weakened leaving the final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver T Williams advised the mare had trotted roughly throughout and in his opinion failed to handle the track conditions.
SUPERFAST GORSEY - weakened final bend.
GOTTA TICKET - broke near the 1900m losing ground. Broke again near the 1600m losing all chance.
TAKE AFTER ME - raced wide early. Broke near the 1100m losing all chance.
MAKE MY DAY - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
Race 6   PROPERTY BROKERS PACE
Prior to this race the track was downgraded to Slow.
STYLE COUNCIL - broke when attempting to shift wider on the track near the 450m hampering an outside runner losing ground with a trailing runner also being hampered. Stewards questioned driver K Cameron regarding this incident and after hearing his explanation placed a warning on the racing record of the gelding.
WEBS REACTOR - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground. Weakened from the 600m.
RAPID RESPONSE - weakened final bend.
EBURY STREET - broke at the start losing ground.
BEAUDIENE QUICK STEP - slow to begin. Hampered near the 450m when STYLE COUNCIL shifted outwards.
JIMMY ARMA - hampered by a breaking runner near the 400m. When questioned regarding the performance driver J Dunn advised he was reluctant to improve wide from the 600m as he felt he would be forced wider on the track by runners in advance of him shifting ground outwards. Mr Dunn added the horse is better suited when driven with cover and had also been hampered by a breaking runner near the 400m.
Race 7   OLLIE & VIC COLLINS MOBILE PACE
FLO MOTION - struck the final track marker prior to the passing lane. Held up for clear racing room late in the run home. Driver S Thornley was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for contacting a track marker.
FULL OF DESIRE - crowded shortly after the start having to be steadied.
MIDFREW LUCRE - broke shortly after the start after being placed in restricted room by an outside runner. Weakened from the 300m.
PHILADELPHIA FILLY - shifted inwards at the start despite the efforts of driver A Cameron crowding inside runners. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Junior driver A Cameron, who declined assistance from a Senior driver, admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that she used her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Miss Cameron's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 29 December up to and including 1 January 2024 (2 days).
EVIDENTLY - driver S Ottley reported she was unable to activate the removable deafeners due to the cord breaking.
PEARL'S A SINGER - weakened from the 300m. When questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver J Curtin was unable to provide any explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Race 8   PULSE ENERGY WESTPORT CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
FIRST ROSE - hampered by a weakening runner near the 600m.
STANLEY'S RULE - hampered by a weakening runner near the 600m.
EVANGALIST - broke at the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Weakened final bend.
SHE'S TOUGH - weakened leaving the final bend.
HOMEBUSH LAD - connections advised the gelding has had its hocks treated since last racing. Driver B Hope was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
LIVE ON LEGEND - weakened from the 600m hampering trailing runners and was retired from the race. When questioned driver B Orange was at a loss to explain the performance and was disappointed with the effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
Race 9   ONE AGENCY RES BUY & SELL WITH MARCHELLE MOBILE PACE
LETS GET TROPICAL - shifted outwards abruptly near the 1500m when leading after shying at birds on the track checking an outside runner with trailing runners being hampered. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Again shied near the 300m and shifted up the track.
BEEPS - hampered near the 1500m.
HES FAST AND FURIOUS - hampered near the 1500m.
BALTIMORE JILL - over-raced middle stages. Hampered near the 1500m. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Orange could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Trainer A Stuart advised in his opinion the mare had failed to handle the track conditions and had been unsuited to the extra distance of today's race.
TOWER OF LOVE - checked near the 1500m when LETS GET TROPICAL shifted outwards abruptly. Weakened final bend.
WRIGGLES RUFUS - hampered near the 1500m.
MELANDO CHIEF - hampered near the 1500m.
BUDDY REIGN - paced roughly shortly after the start. Hampered near the 1500m. Weakened final bend.
RHYME N REASON - hampered near the 1500m.
Race 10   NELSON BUILDING SOCIETY HANDICAP TROT
MASTERLY - trotted roughly in the run home.
ANNA'S BOY - held up final bend.
HELLOVEAMOMENT - broke near the 200m losing all chance.
TU TANGATA - broke near the 250m losing all chance.
PRINCE TEKA - weakened final bend and struck a track marker when laying inwards.
THE BLOSS - held up final bend.
Race 11   BP2GO WESTPORT TROT
TARUKENGA - junior driver S Thornley (assisted by B Orange) was questioned regarding the manner in which he drove for a distance passing the 1900m when unable to maintain his position behind OPAWA PEAK which enabled CURATOR to shift inwards in advance of his runner. Mr Thornley explained the mare had trotted roughly in the early stages of the race when asked to quicken and had again trotted roughly near the 1900m when attempting to remain on the back of OPAWA PEAK and he was reluctant to place the mare under any more pressure. After considering his explanation and viewing the replays Stewards noted Mr Thornley's comments.
DD'S SUPER STUART - driver C Markham advised the removable deafeners were not activated due to having the field covered.
OUR PEGASUS PEARL - shifted inwards rounding the first bend crowding an inside runner. Driver D Morrison was issued a warning.
LOVE WALKED IN - broke racing into the first bend losing considerable ground. Broke again near the 100m losing all chance.
VINCENZO - crowded by an outside runner rounding the first bend. Cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
Race 12   QUAY MARINE SHIP REPAIRS MOBILE PACE
DONEGAL LUTHER - held up leaving the final bend.
DANCE WITH THE BOSS - paced roughly passing the 1600m when being restrained to obtain cover. Hampered by a weakening runner final bend. Held up early in the run home. Driver M Purvis admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $300.
DENNIS DENUTO - weakened final bend hampering a trailing runner.
