Race Comments

Race 1   THE BOX SEAT HOT 2 TROT SERIES HEAT 3 TROT
The start was delayed 2 mins due to VORONOV requiring a sulky change after a tyre deflated during the preliminary.
THE RIVER BOY - fractious prior to the start.
MARIA THERESA - unable to hold the back of the leader near the 2100m which enabled SANS AU REVOIR to shift down to fill that position. Broke near the 400m hampering a trailing runner losing all chance.
BRIENNE - broke at the start losing ground. Lay in contacting a track marker near the 1250m. Broke again near the 650m losing all chance. Stood down pending one satisfactory trial.
SANS AU REVOIR - raced wide early stages.
KEEP IT KLASSY - lost ground leaving the back straight the final time and was then hampered by a breaking runner near the 350m. When questioned regarding the performance Driver D Butcher stated that he was not disappointed with the filly's effort when considering the strong tempo.
ALANA - raced wide early stages before improving to the parked position near the 2000m. Over-raced through the middle stages. Broke near 550m losing all chance.
Race 2   MANGERE LAWN CEMETERY MOBILE PACE
DELIGHTFUL REALITY - lay in near the 1250m contacting track markers. When questioned regarding the performance Driver M McKendry stated that he elected to improve to race without cover near the 1000m to put the filly into the race but had only battled over the final stages.
CLASSIC GOLD - Driver Z Butcher was warned for allowing the gelding to shift in when he was activating gear resulting in contact being made with a track marker near the 250m.
LEO LINCOLN - jumped dung on the track shortly after the start but soon settled before improving to the lead near the 1900m.
Race 3   THE BOX SEAT HOT 2 TROT SERIES HEAT 4 HANDICAP TROT
KIMKAR DASH - held up early final turn.
BREAK FREE - trotted roughly near the 400m and then lay in before again trotting roughly near the 250m. When questioned Driver A Poutama advised that he had been placed at a disadvantage when held up briefly entering the home straight and misjudged where the passing lane commenced when racing over the final track marker. Given the circumstances Stewards took the matter no further other than to remind Mr Poutama of his obligations.
BET N WIN - slow early stages. Trotted roughly when racing wide near the 2300m having to be steadied and was restrained to the rear. Trotted roughly rounding the final turn losing ground. When questioned regarding the performance Trainer/Driver B Butt reported that a sulky tyre had deflated over the early stages so he felt that his only option was to drive the gelding cold and look to have one final run. Mr Butt further stated that he would consider making a gear change during the week in an attempt to assist with handling the bends and expected that the horse would derive considerable benefit from its first race right handed.
THAT'S WHAT WE DO - broke near the 400m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
Race 4   LEWINS ELECTRICAL MOBILE PACE
PRINCE MIKI - hampered by a breaking runner near the 300m.
MAJOR SECRET - broke near the 300m and shifted out hampering outside runners losing its chance. A trailing runner was also briefly hampered in this incident. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
TWISTA - hampered by a breaking runner near the 300m. When questioned regarding the performance Driver J Dickie stated that he was satisfied with the run after the incident on the final turn.
KASHKEEPER - hampered by a breaking runner near the 300m.
IN EXCESS - broke at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the colt's barrier manners. Stewards lodged a protest against 3rd placing being awarding to this runner on the grounds that it broke in excess of 150m over the early stages. The protest was not contested by connections and IN EXCESS was disqualified by Stewards.
Race 5   THAMES MEMBERS HANDICAP TROT
KISS AND RUN - raced keenly middle stages. Held up early final turn.
AMERICAN MUSCLE - weakened near the 400m. A post-race veterinary examinations revealed no obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
CON GRAZIA LOVE - when questioned regarding the performance Driver M McKendry advised that the mare had come to the end of her run near the 150m in what was her race back from a spell and that he was more than satisfied with the effort.
SACRED MOUNTAIN - stood on the mark when the barriers were released before locking wheels with ALL CASHED UP(AUS), which was unable to avoid SACRED MOUNTAIN after having begun well from the 20m mark, with both drivers being tipped from their sulkies. Driver N Chilcott (SACRED MOUNTAIN) was uninjured in this incident and subsequently cleared by St John Ambulance staff. A post-race veterinary examination confirmed that this runner had not sustained any injury. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier manners.
DREAM OF YOU - slow early stages.
ALL CASHED UP(AUS) - Driver T Mitchell was examined by St John Ambulance staff following the event and found to have sustained some bruising. A post-race veterinary examination confirmed that the horse had not sustained any injury in the incident shortly after the start.
Race 6   WOODLANDS STUD QUEEN OF HEARTS F & M MOBILE PACE
MANHATTAN - lay in and contacted a track marker on the final turn.
AARDIE'S EXPRESS - when questioned regarding the performance Driver Z Butcher could offer no explanation for the disappointing run other than a tyre had deflated early in the run home. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
LIFES A BEACH - lay out throughout the run home despite the efforts of Driver B Butcher.
PENNY BLACK - late scratching at 12.11pm due to being sold.
LADY OF THE LIGHT - lay out in the run home but was corrected by Driver M McKendry.
IDOLOU - lay in and raced over several track markers rounding the final turn.
ALLAMERICANLOVER - raced keenly through the middle stages. All clear was withheld to enable Stewards to view the replays of the run home with Driver J Dickie to ascertain whether there were grounds for a protest against the 2nd placing of LIFES A BEACH after these two runners came together on several occasions in the run home. It was established that any inconvenience to ALLAMERICANLOVER had been minimal until passing the 50m when both horses shifted ground contributing to the contact between sulkies which resulted in ALLAMERICANLOVER losing some momentum. Stewards and Mr Dickie were satisfied that there weren't sufficient grounds for a protest and placings were duly authorised.
Race 7   THAMES GOLDFIELDS SUMMER PACING CUP HANDICAP PACE
VILLAGE REBEL - swung sideways after the barriers were released checking FERNLEIGH CASH and lost considerable ground. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts.
MONTANA D J - lay in and contacted a track marker near the 1250m. Held up throughout the run home.
HOORAY HENRY - broke at the start losing ground.
FERNLEIGH CASH - checked shortly after the start losing ground.
COS I CAN - Trainer M Berger was warned for not having the correct colours available. Broke at the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners.
BROOKIES JAFFA - broke at the start losing ground.
Race 8   "THE PUKEKOHE TRAVEL SPECIAL" MOBILE PACE
PROVISEUR - over-raced when caught wide early before improving to cross to the parked position near the 1500m. Commenced to lay in rounding the turn shortly after. Continued to lay in rounding the turns and in particular the final turn when weakening.
Race 9   RODEWALD CONSULTING MOBILE PACE
LOU BABY - weakened in the run home.
FIFTH AND FINAL - lost ground rounding the final turn.
