Race 4 - PERFECT PACKAGING MOBILE PACE
Driver J Dunn (FERGALICIOUS) admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Dunn's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 30 October up to and including 9 November 2023 (3 days).

Race 1   RD PETROLEUM TROT
A false start was declared due to the Starter not being satisfied with the manner that the field addressed the barrier strand.
SPECIAL EFFECTS - trotted roughly near the 1400m and had to be steadied. Broke passing the 1000m losing considerable ground. Broke again near the 200m losing all chance. A final warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Trainer/driver J Stormont advised that the gelding did not handle the track.
CREATE TIME - broke near the 2000m hampering a trailing runner losing ground. Authorisation of 1st placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation.
CREATING KASH - broke at the start losing all chance.
STYX JEWEL - pre-raced warmed. Slow in the early stages. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 2000m. Broke when leading near the 700m losing all chance.
TILTHESUNSETS - slow in the early stages losing considerable ground.
MOONDANCE - paced in the early stages losing all chance. Driver R May was warned for striking track markers near the 1300m.
Race 2   THE PIER HOTEL MOBILE PACE
KAIRAKI CONFIDENTIAL - weakened final bend. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Trainer P Kerr advised blood tests will be taken in the coming days and Stewards will follow up the results.
HIKOI HINE - late scratching at the start on veterinary advice after being found to be lame. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
MORERE - the boring pole came adrift during the running. Stewards inspected the gear and was found to be in good condition with the trainer deemed not to be at fault.
WAVEWATCHER - driver R Holmes admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Holmes' driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 1 November up to and including 10 November 2023 (3 days).
DIDJASEEMIKI - paced roughly in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly. Hung outwards and broke racing into the first bend losing ground. Driver R Close reported the filly raced greenly throughout.
MOSSDALE MARGARET - held up throughout the run home.
Race 3   KAIKOURA BUILDING CENTRE ITM HANDICAP TROT
BROTHER LOVE - broke at the start checking a trailing runner losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Trainer/driver G Smith advised that he will be making gear changes prior to racing next.
A HILL TWO MENNY - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home.
EMILY - broke at the start losing all chance.
HELLOVEAMOMENT - checked and broke at the start losing ground.
SPELLS OF LOVE - underwent a post-race veterinary examination at the request of connections which revealed the gelding to be showing signs of colic which was treated. A veterinary clearance is required prior to resuming. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
LIGHT OF DA MOON - connections advised that the mare has had a wind operation since last racing.
GAZZA BEATT - trotted roughly and broke near the 700m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
TE RAPA - raced wide without cover from the 800m.
Race 4   SMARTLIFT SYSTEMS LTD HANDICAP PACE
STAR MAGIC - hampered by a weakening runner final bend. Broke near the 200m losing ground. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
ARNOLD LAYNE - tangled away.
SHEPHERDS DELIGHT - hampered by a weakening runner final bend.
JUST HOLLA - weakened final bend hampering trailing runners. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Orange could offer no tangible reason. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
THE CRAIC - raced wide without cover from the 900m.
Race 5   THE LOBSTER INN/ KAIKOURA NIGHT 'N DAY HANDICAP TROT
CORMORAN STRIKE - broke at the start hampering a trailing runner losing all chance.
ALMIGHTY FEAR - hung inwards final bend striking track markers.
MUSCLE BANK - broke near the 1250m losing all chance.
TU TANGATA - hampered at the start by a breaking runner. Broke near the 950m losing all chance. Trainer/driver P Nairn advised the gelding didn't handle the track.
THAT'S WHAT WE DO - broke near the 400m losing all chance. Driver Z Butcher was warned for the manner in which he drove near the 1400m when half carting.
Race 6   PENINSULAR BEACHFRONT RESORT MOBILE PACE
MILLWOOD INDIE - held up over the concluding stages. Driver T Bamford advised that he didn't activate the removable deafeners in consequence.
MCCRIKEY - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
CELTIC SPIRIT - driver B Hope was warned for allowing his horse to strike the final track marker prior to the passing lane.
DENY EVERYTHING - late scratching at 7.35am on veterinary advice.
Race 7   IRT YOUR HORSE OUR PASSION SOUTH BAY TROTTERS CUP (HCP TROT)
OUTAMYWAY - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start after racing yesterday. Driver P Nairn admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip free of the rein in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Nairn's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 3 November up to and including 16 November 2023 (3 days).
EUROKASH - connections advised the gelding has had a hind leg treated since last racing.
OSCAR BONAVENA - broke near the 300m losing ground. Driver O Thornley advised the horse had struck a knee.
Race 8   ALABAR KAIKOURA CUP (STAND PACE)
SELF ASSURED - forced to race wide from the 700m. Lay inwards rounding the final bend.
AKUTA - began awkwardly.
HEZA SPORT - over-raced when being held up near the 400m and then lay outwards becoming awkwardly positioned to the inside of SMIFFY'S TERROR which had commenced to shift outwards and struck the wheel. After hearing from driver C DeFilippi and viewing the films Stewards took the matter no further.
SMIFFY'S TERROR - slow to leave the pre-race formation. Driver J Dunn was advised to make a better effort to be in position earlier.
KANGO - fractious prior to the start, despite this driver D Butcher was advised to make a better effort to start further down the track. Raced wide early.
Race 9   NZB STANDARDBRED SALES SERIES AGED CLASSIC (HCP PACE)
HEISENBERG - junior driver K Newman (assisted by J Dunn) admitted a breach of Rule 869(4) and the Home Straight Regulations in that he failed to maintain a straight course in the run home resulting in HEY BARTENDER being checked near the 150m. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Newman's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 9 November up to and including 16 November 2023 (3 days).
HEY BARTENDER - checked near the 150m when an inside runner shifted ground outwards.
ANYTHING GOES - tangled away.
BACH - paced roughly passing the 800m losing ground.
