Race 1   DONEGAL HOUSE TROT
BRIAN BEATT - hampered by a breaking runner near the 900m.
HEAVENLY STRINGS - slow to begin. Broke rounding the first bend losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
GINAS MAJESTY - hung inwards and weakened rounding the final bend. Trotted roughly in the run home.
WHO'S QUEEN - broke near the 900m losing ground hampering a trailing runner.
SUPERFAST GORSEY - trotted roughly through the middle stages. Broke near the 950m losing ground.
MURANO - lay outwards in the run home and shifted up the track. Notwithstanding this, driver T Williams was advised to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course.
SEBASTIAN COE - broke after 100m losing ground. Again broke rounding the first bend losing all chance and was retired from the race. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming.
BOYZ INVASION - over-raced middle stages.
Race 2   ROAD METALS & KIWI CONCRETE MOBILE TROT
IZIA - broke in the score up hampering a trailing runner losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Broke again near the 450m losing all chance.
T K MEGASTAR - driver R Holmes advised that he did not activate the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
HIGH INTENSITY - hampered in the score up by a breaking runner and was back slightly at the start.
BLITHE - weakened final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver T Williams advised that the mare had been unsuited to racing in the parked position.
VERTIGO - broke in the score up losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
Race 3   LION NZ MOBILE PACE
MARY LOU - held up over the concluding stages.
ROSIE RICHTER - broke shortly after the start hampering trailing runners losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly.
RURAL CASH - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start.
DOVER TERRACE - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer S Jacobs advised the gelding had shown natural improvement from its first start back from a spell and had received an economical run throughout.
CARMELITE - improved wide from the 500m.
MILEY ACE - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start.
PRIDES CONTESSA - lay inwards near the 1400m striking a track marker. Had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home.
Race 4   PERFECT PACKAGING MOBILE PACE
BETTERTHANDIVA - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer/driver G Smith advised the mare had been suited to being able to lead and dictate terms.
HOPE FOR LOVE - over-raced middle stages.
RHYME N REASON - hampered by a breaking runner near the 400m losing ground.
FERGALICIOUS - Stewards issued a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that driver J Dunn used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home with the hearing adjourned until 30 October 2023.
HAYLEY'S MEDDLE - broke near the 400m hampering a trailing runner losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the filly.
Race 5   PRECUT CONSTRUCTION JUNIOR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE
ADESANYA - paced roughly when racing to the inside of SUPERSTAR LEGEND approaching the first bend. Stewards questioned drivers K Newman (ADESANYA) and W House (SUPERSTAR LEGEND) regarding this incident and after hearing their explanation, Mr House was advised to ensure he is fully clear when shifting ground.
WATCH THAT MAN - lay inwards having to be corrected by its driver near the 100m.
SUPERSTAR LEGEND - struck a track marker near the 350m. Driver W House was issued with a warning.
MOONLITE DREAM - when questioned regarding the performance driver B Hope advised that the mare had worked hard in the early and middle stages with the effort taking its toll.
OUTAMYWAY - raced wide early and middle stages. Driver R Harrison was warned for using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
WILLISON - raced wide early. Held up early stages of the run home.
CASINO ACTION - raced wide without cover from the 1200m.
Race 6   OCEAN RIDGE KAIKOURA FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
MACH MAJOR - over-raced middle stages. Weakened final bend. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
MARIA ALLEGONDA - over-raced middle stages.
OUR SHANGRI LANA - raced wide without cover from the 900m.
Race 7   INNOVATIVE WASTE KAIKOURA TROT
KAWHI - hampered by a weakening runner near the 800m.
QUIK BARBIE - broke at the start losing ground. Broke again near the 350m losing its chance. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming.
MAXWELL EDISON - trainer J Howe was warned for presenting the gelding to race with fixed deafeners which were not notified. Weakened from the 800m hampering a trailing runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG prior to completing one satisfactory trial.
SUE'S DASH - raced greenly near the 1300m when leading and shifted up the track despite the efforts of driver B Orange.
HEAD EM UP - broke at the start losing ground. Broke briefly near the 150m. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation.
Race 8   GAMESON RACING STABLES / FISSENDEN BROS MOBILE PACE
PHILADELPHIA FILLY - broke after 200m hampering a trailing runner losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare. Struck track markers near the 1300m and again near the 300m. Driver A Cameron was issued with a warning.
BIG MAMA MORRIS - driver S O'Reilly advised that she sustained a punctured sulky tyre leaving the final bend.
COMMANDER BEN - hampered by a breaking runner after 200m.
DOCTOR TIM - raced wide without cover from the 1100m.
POETRY IN MOTION - junior driver G Thornley (assisted by J Cox) defended a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly leaving the final bend when allowing her horse to strike the sulky wheel of BIG MAMA MORRIS which punctured, with the hearing adjourned until 30 October 2023.
DIDJASHOUTTHEBAR - weakened final bend.
JOAN'S RISING STAR - late scratching on veterinary advice at 5.30pm. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
