Stewards have completed their investigation into the tactics adopted by driver J Morrison near the 700m when shifting ground outwards on ROCK N DIAMONDS and weakening shortly after. After reviewing films of the horse's recent races and further considering the comments of Mr Morrison and trainer K Barron on the night, and also the sectional times for the race, Stewards have decided no further action was required.

Race 1   COUNTRY FEASTS (AMATEUR DRIVERS) MOBILE PACE
MR INCREDIBLE - broke in the score up however was in position at the candy pole and start.
SHARDS FURY - driver K McClintock was warned for using his whip free of the rein on one occasion in the run home.
HES FAST AND FURIOUS - connections advised Stewards that the gelding has had its stifles treated since last racing. Held up early and middle stages of the run home.
FOVEAUX GAMBLER - raced wide throughout. Shifted inwards leaving the final bend and in the run home checking an inside runner. A protest was lodged by driver M House (SMOKIN ANNIE) placed 3rd, against 2nd placing being awarded to FOVEAUX GAMBLER (C Negus) under Rule 869A(2) alleging interference when FOVEAUX GAMBLER shifted inwards in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from both drivers and Stewards, the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the protest. Mrs Negus admitted an associated charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly when allowing her horse to shift inwards in the run home checking SMOKIN ANNIE. After considering submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mrs Negus' Amateur driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 8 October 2023 (6 weeks). Mrs Negus was also warned for her lack of judgement when electing to race wide throughout.
CHANGEAROUND - hung outwards rounding the final bend despite the efforts of driver C Wigg. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
OFF THE EDGE - driver A Edge was warned for using his whip free of the rein on one occasion in the run home.
Race 2   NORTH CANTERBURY TROTTING TRIALS AT RANGIORA TROT
DESERT ROYAL - broke near the 900m losing ground.
KING OF DIAMONDS - broke at the start losing ground.
GOLD NUGGET - broke racing into the first bend when racing to the inside of COURTNEY MAY. Driver J Ford defended a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he drove carelessly racing into the first bend when failing to concede his position resulting in his horse contacting the sulky of COURTNEY MAY and breaking. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and Mr Ford, the Adjudicative Committee found the charge proved and Mr Ford's driver's licence was suspended from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 8 September 2023 (3 days).
LOVE WALKED IN - broke at the start losing ground. Driver R May admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly rounding the final bend when allowing his horse to shift inwards resulting in MOONDANCE being checked and breaking. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty, the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr May's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 8 September 2023 (3 days).
INSTANT CLASSIC - raced wide without cover from the 1400m. Broke near the 600m losing all chance.
MUSCLE SASS - connections advised Stewards that the filly has been treated for muscle tie-up since last racing. Broke late in the run home and was lapped on by EUROSTYLE at the finish. Stewards lodged a protest against 1st placing being awarded under Rule 870(5) and after viewing the replays the connections did not contest the protest and MUSCLE SASS was relegated to 2nd placing by the Stewards.
STUARTS BULLER BOY - weakened from the 600m. When questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver A Faulks advised he would be restricting the gelding's races to shorter distances in the immediate future.
SPECIAL EFFECTS - broke at the start losing ground. Broke briefly near the 2200m. Broke again near the 900m losing ground. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
EUROSTYLE - connections advised Stewards that the mare has been treated for muscle tie-up since last racing.
MOONDANCE - slow in the early stages. Checked and broke leaving the final bend.
Trainer B Crothers advised Stewards on 28 September that ROSE ISLE has had its knees treated since last racing.
Race 3   BETAVET (FILLIES & MARES) MOBILE PACE
SEARING LIGHT - held up throughout the run home. Driver S Ottley reported she did not activate the removable deafeners in consequence.
SEACRACKA - over-raced throughout.
MACY BLACK - raced wide early.
OH MY LOVE - raced wide early.
FERGALICIOUS - raced wide early.
SWEET TIZZY LOU - driver J Cox was warned for shifting ground and crowding an outside runner leaving the final bend.
MOSSDALE MARGARET - broke leaving the final bend hampering a trailing runner losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the filly. Driver B Hope advised the filly had struck its sulky wheel causing it to break.
EYES TO HEAVEN - crowded leaving the final bend when SWEET TIZZY LOU shifted wider on the track. Hampered by a breaking runner in the run home.
MARY LOU - paced roughly and broke racing into the first bend losing ground. Driver T Williams advised he would be recommending hopple shorteners be added to the filly's gear for future starts.
TEAM TULLY - late scratching on veterinary advice at 6.20pm on 26 August 2023.

GOOD TIME BETTY - broke shortly after the start losing ground. Held up early and middle stages of the run home. Driver J Morrison advised he would be recommending hopple shorteners be added to the mare's gear for future starts.
MILEY ACE - broke at the start losing ground.
SMOKIN GUN - broke at the start and shifted inwards contacting the sulky of MILEY ACE losing ground. Driver S Iremonger was warned for trailing too closely behind GOOD TIME BETTY during the middle stages. Mr Iremonger was also warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
MONTOYA - raced wide without cover from the 1800m despite the efforts of driver D van Til.
KIWI'S ROCK - broke at the start losing ground. Held up early in the run home before breaking passing the 200m. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
HEAVEN - broke at the start losing ground. Raced wide early. Broke again near the 400m losing ground. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
WHOSDREAMINGNOW - broke after 100m losing ground. Authorisation of 3rd placing was withheld until Stewards confirmed the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation in the early stages.
LOUIS - pre-race warmed. Broke briefly at the start losing ground.
CORFU BROMAC - paced roughly in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination at the request of the connections revealed the gelding to be lame in the left fore leg. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
Race 5   BAYLEYS RANGIORA RACEDAY 10 NOVEMBER HANDICAP PACE
TREMENDOUS LOVER - broke at the start losing ground. Briefly held up passing the 150m.
AVA ADORE - driver K Cox reported the mare had cast a shoe during the running.
SANTANNA MACH - raced fiercely through the middle stages causing driver W House considerable difficulty. Contacted the sulky of TREMENDOUS LOVER near the 800m despite the efforts of Mr House and broke briefly. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
KENNEDY - broke at the start losing ground. Held up early and middle stages of the run home.
ARCHIE - trainer M Pash advised Stewards that the gelding has been treated for a skin infection since last racing. Broke passing the 2200m hampering a trailing runner losing ground. Over-raced middle stages. Weakened from the 400m. Driver J Morrison reported he had difficulty steering the gelding throughout.
JUST HOLLA - hampered by a breaking runner near the 2200m.
Race 6   KAIAPOI CLUB RACING SECTION TROT
GOTTA TICKET - broke at the start losing ground. Broke again racing into the first bend losing considerable ground. Stewards reviewed replays of the start with Starter R Donnelly and driver J Morrison after the barrier strand failed to clear the front legs of GOTTA TICKET and became entangled due to the gelding charging forward despite the efforts of Mr Morrison. Declared a non-runner under Rule 213(1)(j) after being denied a fair start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
RACHMANINOV - broke at the start losing ground. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 500m.
GRANNY ROSE - broke near the 500m hampering a trailing runner.
LA DAMA - driver J Dunn advised he did not activate the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
KOHLI TROUBLE - broke near the 200m briefly hampering an outside runner.
GENTLE MAC - broke at the start losing all chance. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion from a standing start prior to resuming.
DRAGONS SUNRISE - briefly hampered by a breaking runner near the 200m.
MURANO - cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
Race 7   RAKERO RACING PACE
LET'S GO RINGO - weakened final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver M Williamson advised he was very disappointed and could provide no explanation. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
BEAUDIENE QUICK STEP - crowded by an outside runner near the 1600m.
ZIA BROMAC - broke at the start losing ground. Driver T Williams reported the mare had pulled a shoe at the start.
SPORTS BABE - broke at the start losing ground.
RAKERO SLAMMER - when questioned regarding the improved performance driver T Bamford advised the gelding had benefited from a decrease in workload since recently joining the stable and had trialled well in preparation for racing today.
EASTWOOD DREAM - hampered by a weakening runner near the 800m.
MAJOR PERFORMER - hampered by a weakening runner near the 800m. When questioned regarding the performance driver C Dalgety advised he was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate. Trainer T Yesberg advised he will have blood tests taken from the filly in the coming days and Stewards will follow up the results.
PLAYING WITH STARS - driver G Smith was warned for the manner he drove near the 1600m when crowding an inside runner.
PENNETTA - connections advised Stewards the mare has been treated for muscle tie-up since last racing. Weakened from the 800m hampering trailing runners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming.
DON JUAN - when questioned regarding the performance trainer M Purvis advised the horse had peaked on its run inside the final 300m and he would be increasing the colt's workload prior to resuming.
PURE COURAGE - broke at the start losing ground.
KIWI RECORD - fractious prior to the start. Hung outwards and paced roughly rounding the first bend. Broke near the 800m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
Trainer J Gray advised Stewards on 1 September that LET'S GO RINGO has recovered well following its last start and has worked well in preparation for racing at Ashburton on Sunday.
Trainer T Yesberg advised Stewards on 30 August that blood tests taken from MAJOR PERFORMER following its last start have revealed a high white cell count which has been treated and the filly will now be spelled.
Race 8   STAN & PETER MOORE MOBILE PACE
BOBBY WATERHOUSE - over-raced early and middle stages.
DOCTOR TIM - raced four wide from the 700m. Lay inwards passing the 500m crowding an inside runner. Notwithstanding this driver W House was spoken to advisedly to make a greater effort to prevent his runner from shifting inwards. Mr House advised he sustained a punctured sulky tyre passing the 700m.
MICHAEL CAINE - struck the sulky wheel of DOCTOR TIM when attempting to shift inwards passing the 700m. Junior driver B Hope admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly when allowing his runner to strike the sulky wheel of DOCTOR TIM which punctured. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $250. Crowded by an outside runner near the 500m. When questioned regarding the performance Mr Hope advised he was very disappointed and could provide no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
BAILEYS PITCH - raced wide early. Held up by a weakening runner final bend.
BEST TRIO - raced wide early. Weakened final bend hampering a trailing runner.
KRYSTAL DELIGHT - junior driver R Harrison was warned for using her whip free of the rein on one occasion in the run home.
NORTHVIEW PEG - held up throughout the run home. Driver R May advised he did not activate the removable deafeners in consequence.
Connections advised Stewards on 3 September that MICHAEL CAINE has been treated for a blood irregularity since last racing.
Race 9   2022/23 HORSE OF THE YEAR - NATIVES INFERNO TROT
LOVE IS EVERYWHERE - driver W House reported he sustained a punctured sulky tyre near the 200m.
BROTHER LOVE - began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance driver G Smith advised he was disappointed with the effort and would be sending the gelding for a spell.
AIGUILLE - broke near the 200m and struck the sulky wheel of LOVE IS EVERYWHERE while in a break.
RANDEL HUSTON P - fractious and reared prior to the start. Broke at the start losing all chance. Driver K Butt reported the gelding had trotted roughly rounding the bends.
Race 10   CHRISTMAS AT THE RACES 17 DECEMBER MOBILE PACE
FINDERS KEEPERS - held up by a weakening runner passing the 600m. Again held up late in the run home.
EBURY STREET - weakened from the 650m hampering trailing runners. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming.
HES SANTAS EXCUSE - raced wide until reaching the parked position near the 1000m.
KING ARTHUR - raced wide early.
ROCK N DIAMONDS - held up by a weakening runner passing the 600m. Again held up in the early and middle stages of the run home. Driver S Thornley reported the gelding had hung throughout causing him some difficulty.
HUTASA - held up by a weakening runner passing the 600m.
TIDE AND TIME - over-raced middle stages.
