Race 9   PAUL RENWICK JOINERY & KITCHEN MOBILE PACE
SPORTY CHARLIE - lay outwards throughout the run home.
ARTATAC - driver S Ottley was questioned regarding the manner in which she drove racing through the front straight on the first occasion when unsuccessfully contesting the lead which was being held by CLOUDY BAY. Miss Ottley stated after being crossed by CLOUDY BAY approaching the first turn she elected to improve forward as she felt driver T Williams (CLOUDY BAY) might look to take a trail. She added it was only when Mr Williams made it apparent he was intent on holding the lead when turning his whip near the 1300m that she immediately desisted with the challenge and restrained to race without cover. Miss Ottley further explained ARTATAC had raced well previously when driven in a similar manner but on this occasion the gelding had started to over-race before commencing to weaken approaching the 500m. Miss Ottley added that, notwithstanding this, she was disappointed with the gelding's performance. After considering Miss Ottley's explanation, Stewards took the matter no further other than to remind her of her obligations given similar circumstances in the future to ensure she makes every effort not to set her horse a task that is beyond its capabilities. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
