LIL MISS MUSCLES - Stewards lodged a protest against 3rd placing being awarded under Rule 859(3) alleging the mare had started in advance of its correct barrier position on the second line after starting on the outside of the front line after being directed to start from that position by the Starter. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from trainer M Jones and Stewards, LIL MISS MUSCLES was disqualified and declared a late scratching by the Adjudicative Committee. Stewards investigated the reason why LIL MISS MUSCLES did not start from its correct barrier position. When questioned Starter R Donnelly stated that he was unaware there had been a late scratching on the front line despite his raceday book showing GREENBANK DON was a late scratching and had started LIL MISS MUSCLES from what he believed to be its rightful position. Upon further investigation it was established there had been a miscommunication between Stewards and Mr Donnelly when confirming the front line limit of this race prior to the start of the meeting. A revised procedure for advising the Starter of late scratchings will be implemented for future race meetings.
