Wyndham HRC - Sunday, 6th November 2022
Race 8 - HERBERTS TRANSPORT MOBILE PACE
Trainer S Matheson (SUZIE ROCKS) admitted a breach of Rule 403(m)(ii) in that he failed to advise Stewards that this mare had been served since last racing. After considering penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $100.
Winton HRC - Thursday, 17th November 2022
Race 8 - CREATION SIGNS MOBILE PACE
Stewards concluded an investigation into the tactics adopted by Driver R McIlwrick (THE DARK KNIGHT). Of particular concern to the Stewards was the manner in which Mr McIlwrick drove from the 1000m when establishing a considerable lead before weakening rounding the final bend. After considering Mr McIlwrick's explanation and taking into account a subsequent Veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be showing signs of a respiratory infection, Stewards issued Mr McIlwrick with a warning for his lack of judgement and was advised that he must not drive in a manner which leaves himself open to query.

HOT SAUCY BETTY - trotted roughly rounding the first bend. Trainer K Green reported to Stewards that upon returning to the stabling area the mare was showing signs of muscle tie-up and has been treated accordingly by the on course Veterinarian. THE POWER BROKER - slow to begin. Trotted roughly at various stages throughout. Weakened final bend.

BRANXHOLME LASS - shifted up the track under pressure in the run home, having to be straightened by Driver K Green.
HERITAGE - lay inwards in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
IS HE WATCHING ME - raced wide early. Weakened final bend. Driver A Armour reported that the mare was making abnormal breathing noises during the race and in his opinion may have choked down. Mr Armour further advised he would be recommending gear changes prior to IS HE WATCHING ME racing next. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow recovery.
MATAI CHARLOTTE - raced wide early. Again raced wide through the middle stages. Weakened final bend. Stewards questioned Driver R McIlwrick regarding the tactics he adopted through the middle stages. Mr McIlwrick advised the mare in his opinion was best driven in a forward position. When progressing three wide in the middle stages MATAI CHARLOTTE had raced lethargically so he desisted in his attempt to progress forward electing to take a position one off the fence back in the field. Driver R McIlwrick further advised that he had difficulty steering the mare throughout.
NOWUCMENOWUDON'T - Driver B Orange could offer no explanation for the performance of the filly.
THE MATRIARCH - forced to race wider on the track briefly near the 150m. When questioned regarding this Driver M Williamson stated his chances had not been affected.

SOUTHERN STARR - lost contact with the field through the middle stages. Crowded and had to be steadied when an inside runner shifted ground outwards near the 500m. Returned to the birdcage enclosure with blood present in the nasal area. A post-race Veterinary examination confirmed the mare had bled. Stood down for the mandatory period of 30 days with connections advised a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination prior to completing a satisfactory trial would be required before SOUTHERN STARR resumes racing.

A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Authorisation of 2nd placing was withheld until Stewards had viewed replays and were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation. Driver J Douglas admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and Whip & Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After considering penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Douglas' licence to drive from the conclusion of racing today 23 November up to and including 08 December 2022 (3 days).
NORTHVIEW ROCK - over raced middle stages.
JACCKA CONNOR - shifted ground inwards racing into the first bend when not sufficiently clear of SWEET NOTHINGS with that runner contacting the sulky wheel of JACCKA CONNOR, resulting in the near side tyre puncturing and coming off the rim with the gelding being retired from the race. Stewards spoke with junior Driver T Larsen, assisted by K Larsen, regarding the incident racing into the first bend where it was established that when Mr Larsen attempted to shift down the track the gelding became difficult to steer due to the grit coming off the sulky several lengths in front of him. Mr Larsen further stated that the gelding was wearing a nose flap and under check to prevent this from happening. After hearing the evidence and viewing the replays it was evident the incident was caused by the manners of the horse. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Notwithstanding this Driver T Larsen was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
