After considering Mr Hill's comments and viewing the films, the Stewards will speak with him in the coming days with a focus on education.
JOANIE MAGIC - Stewards questioned Driver J Douglas regarding the tactics he adopted in the middle stages of the race when racing outside the leader. Mr Douglas explained that near the 2000m when he pressed forward his intention was to take the lead however after an unsuccessful challenge for approximately 200m he then tried to restrain his mare but was unable to do so due to the horse beginning to over race, so he elected to remain racing in the parked position in an effort to get JOANIE MAGIC to relax. Mr Douglas further stated he would be recommending to connections that gear changes be made prior to the mare racing next. Stewards noted and accepted Mr Douglas' comments regarding this matter.
BETTER ROBYN - broke in the score up losing all chance. Stood down to complete one mobile trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.

Following the running of this race there was an incident when Drivers S O'Reilly and P Hunter were dislodged from their sulkies on returning to the stabling area. ANDOVER THE KEYS - Driver S O'Reilly was warned to ensure she starts wider on the track when drawn Unruly. Broke near the 700m.
CHICK MAGNET - fractious prior to the start and swung sideways before the tapes were released losing all chance. Following the race the All Clear was delayed whilst Stewards reviewed the footage of the start and spoke with Driver T Stratford after which CHICK MAGNET was declared a non-runner under Rule 213(1)(j) due to the horse being denied a fair start. ESCOBAR - paced roughly in the score up. Raced wide early stages. Driver O Kite reported the gelding had felt lethargic throughout and requested a post-race Veterinary examination which revealed no obvious abnormalities. Blood tests were conducted on the gelding and Trainer N Williamson undertook to notify Stewards of any findings.
WHO'S BETTOR - had to be restrained near the 500m when placed in tight quarters by an inside runner. Held up for clear racing room throughout the run home.
FOVEAUX STRAIT - Stewards questioned driver R McIlwrick regarding the manner he drove near the 1200m when allowing ESCOBAR to take a position in front of him in the one out line. Mr McIlwrick explained that due to the early speed after the mile start his gelding was not pacing fluently racing into the bend and he was therefore reluctant to chase the horse up to hold its position. Stewards accepted Mr McIlwrick's explanation. |
