MOSSDALE TERRY - over-raced early and became awkwardly placed to the inside of STEPHS BOY near the 1700m and paced roughly after contacting the sulky wheel of that runner. Weakened leaving the final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Hope advised the gelding had over-raced on occasions during the running and had also been making abnormal breathing noises. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr Hope advised he would be recommending gear changes prior to the gelding resuming. | |
STEPHS BOY - shifted inwards near the 1700m resulting in MOSSDALE TERRY, which had commenced to over-race, being placed in restricted room and contacting the sulky wheel of STEPHS BOY. Stewards questioned drivers G O'Reilly (STEPHS BOY) and B Hope (MOSSDALE TERRY) regarding this incident. After hearing from both parties and viewing the films Mr O'Reilly was issued with a warning to ensure he must exercise greater care when shifting ground notwithstanding MOSSDALE TERRY was over-racing. Driver B Hope was issued with a warning to ensure that he must cease driving his runner forward once positions are not fully available for him to improve into. Mr O'Reilly was also issued with a warning for using his whip in a continuous manner in the run home. | |

Stewards lodged a protest against 4th placing being awarded under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging the gelding had broken in excess of 150m in the early stages. After viewing the films and hearing evidence from Stewards and driver J Curtin the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the protest. | |
