The start was then further delayed due to the sulky on PRESIDENTS TOPSHOT having to be replaced. Stewards extended leniency when assessing horse penalties due to the false start.

MONT BLANC - broke in the initial score up prior to the false start being declared. Sent to the Unruly position at the request of Trainer/Driver R Paynter for the restart where the gelding shall remain for future mobiles. Raced wide without cover from the 1100m when unable to secure the parked position which was being held by BELLATRIX.

An investigation was opened into the tactics adopted by Driver J Abernethy over the early stages. After viewing the replays and hearing initial evidence the hearing was adjourned sine die.
RORY MCILROY - unsuccessfully contested for the early lead. Weakened from the 700m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. An investigation was opened into the tactics adopted by Driver A Poutama over the early stages. After viewing the replays and hearing initial evidence the hearing was adjourned sine die.
SHEZA ROSE - shifted out and locked wheels with RUN MASON RUN passing the 100m with RUN MASON RUN then shifting outwards after the sulkies cleared hampering JACK TAR. Authorisation of SHEZA ROSE's first placing was withheld until Stewards questioned Drivers P Ferguson (RUN MASON RUN), D Butcher (JACK TAR) and T Mitchell (SHEZA ROSE) in relation to this incident. After considering the evidence and viewing the replays Stewards took the matter no further as it was felt that RUN MASON RUN had contributed to the locking of wheels with SHEZA ROSE by laying in while the Panel were not sufficiently satisfied that JACK TAR would have beaten both SHEZA ROSE and RUN MASON RUN given where the interference occurred and the margin involved.
RUN MASON RUN - hampered passing the 700m by weakening runner. Locked wheels with SHEZA ROSE near the 100m before shifting out after the sulky's cleared hampering an outside runner.

Driver J Abernethy (PETER FORSBERG) admitted a charge under Rule 868(2) in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure his horse was given full opportunity to win the race or obtain the best possible position and/or finishing place by holding the lead when challenged by RORY MCILROY (A Poutama) over the initial 700m which has resulted in PETER FORSBERG weakening near the 700m to finish in 10th place beaten 50.1 lengths. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Abernethy's Driver's Licence from the conclusion of racing on the 23rd June up to and including the 15 July 2022 (3 days) and imposed a fine of $400.
Driver A Poutama (RORY MCILROY) admitted a charge under Rule 868(2) in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure his horse was given full opportunity to win the race or to obtain the best possible position and/or finishing place by persisting with a challenge for the lead, which was being held by PETER FORSBERG (J Abernethy), over the initial 700m and that this has resulted in the gelding weakening from near the 700m to finish in 11th place (last) beaten 85.8 lengths. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Poutama's Driver's Licence up to and including the 7th July 2022 (3 days) and imposed a fine of $300.
