NATIVES BLAZIN SON - broke passing the 250m and failed to settle. Stewards lodged a protest against 4th placing being awarded to the gelding under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging NATIVES BLAZIN SON had broken in excess of 50m inside the final 200m. After viewing the replays driver S Ottley did not contest the protest and NATIVES BLAZIN SON was disqualified by Stewards.

TESSAMAE - trotted roughly rounding the final bend and broke briefly near the 500m and shifted ground outwards hampering an outside runner. Continued to trot roughly throughout the run home. Authorisation of 2nd placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the mare had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation and had lost ground when in a break. Stewards questioned driver B Borcoskie in relation to his drive near the 500m when leading he shifted his horse which was in a break wider on the track. Mr Borcoskie advised that he believed the mare would not regain its gait and so immediately attempted to take his horse clear of the field as required with the horse then regaining its gait. After hearing from Mr Borcoskie and viewing the films, Stewards were satisfied his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances.

TESSAMAE - Stewards questioned driver B Borcoskie regarding his lack of vigour over the concluding stages and after hearing his explanation and viewing replays of previous starts issued a charge under Rule 868(3) alleging he failed to drive the mare out to the end of the race when having a reasonable chance of finishing 1st. Mr Borcoskie advised he would be defending the charge and the hearing was adjourned by the Adjudicative Committee sine die.

WATERLOO STATION - held up leaving the final bend and contacted the sulky of MUSCLE DASH which was weakening and broke losing all chance. Driver S Whatuira admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly in this incident and after hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Miss Whatuira's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing tonight up to and including 30 August 2024 (3 days). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
