HOKONUI JOEL - broke shortly after the start when racing greenly and placed in restricted room losing ground. Stewards spoke with drivers B Williamson (HOKONUI JOEL), K Green (HEIDSIECK) and C Ferguson (BELUGA) regarding this incident. After viewing the replays and hearing the evidence it was established that HEIDSIECK had lay in marginally racing into the first bend when HOKONUI JOEL was racing greenly to its inside. After considering the evidence Stewards were unable to apportion blame to anyone horse or driver and accordingly deemed this to be a racing incident. Lay out rounding the final bend and throughout the run home.

RISE UP N DANCE - raced wide early. When questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver N Williamson advised that the gelding had over-raced on occasion during the running, however despite this he was still disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation.

RISE UP N DANCE - raced wide in the early stages. Hung inwards early in the run home and had to be corrected by driver N Williamson. When questioned regarding the performance, Mr Williamson advised that the tempo of the race made it difficult to make ground and with no established three wide line, he was unable to improve his position prior to the final bend. Mr Williamson added that despite this he was pleased with the manner in which the gelding had finished the race off.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and very high heart rate. Stewards will follow up with Mr Williamson in the coming days.

DRAGON POWER - lay outwards rounding the final bend and when shifting ground near the 350m contacted the sulky wheel of RAKERO LIGHTNING. Driver H Douglas, who declined the assistance of a senior, was issued with a warning for the manner in which he drove at this stage of the race. When assessing this Stewards took into account there were no consequential effects. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running throughout the run home. Driver H Douglas advised he would be recommending gear changes.

When questioned regarding the performance driver M Hill advised that the gelding had travelled well during the running however when placed under pressure had failed to respond and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed BROOKIES PLAYER had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG before completing one trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.

RAKAMICK - broke near the 1850m losing ground. Broke again near the 1300m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Trainer C Barron advised he would return RAKAMICK to the workouts and avoid racing the gelding on grass tracks for the near future.

Stewards spoke with driver B Orange regarding the gelding breaking on the first bend, who advised that his runner had been slow to react when being pushed down the track and had briefly galloped as a result.
