Authorisation of this runner's 4th placing was withheld until Stewards had reviewed the footage and were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation when breaking at the start and during the running.

RASPALIA - raced wide on the track racing into and rounding the first bend when BETTER BE QUICK shifted out. Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule however after viewing replays it was established that RASPALIA had never been racing closer in than three wide and BETTER BE QUICK had shifted out to fill the vacant position in the running line. Accordingly, no further action was necessary.

FOVEAUX GAMBLER - locked wheels with GOORAMBAT ART which hung inwards racing into the first bend. Amateur driver C Negus admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that she used her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion early in the run home and then in a continuous manner. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $500.

SHERWOOD MAGGIE - raced wide early. Over-raced middle stages. Hampered by a weakening runner in the early and middle stages of the run home placing driver C Dalgety in some difficulty, resulting in the gelding striking the sulky wheel of FOREVER ARDEN. Stewards questioned junior driver C Dalgety regarding the tactics he adopted during the race, particularly near the 600m, when he allowed his runner to be covered by the sharply improving JENNY GUMP. Mr Dalgety explained that the mare was hanging on the right rein and that he was reluctant to shift three wide at that stage of the race, given the distance remaining to the winning post. Stewards noted Mr Dalgety's explanation and took into account the manner the runner had been driven at its most recent start.

When questioned regarding the performance driver R Holmes advised the filly had over-raced in the score up and had worked hard in the early stages to obtain the lead. Mr Holmes added the filly had continued to over-race with the effort taking its toll over the concluding stages. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
