Lay inwards on the bend near the 900m then locked wheels with BETTER KAST near the 800m and broke losing all chance, hampering trailing runners. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.

BETTER KAST - broke after contacting the sulky wheel of ROCKY PACIFIC when being restrained and hanging outwards racing into the first bend losing ground. Hampered by a weakening runner near the 800m. Stewards questioned driver M Hill regarding the incident on the first bend, who advised the mare had got its tongue over the bit and proved difficult to restrain. After viewing the films and hearing from Mr Hill a warning was placed on the racing record of BETTER KAST. Mr Hill advised he would be recommending gear changes.
