Became awkwardly placed behind KISS THE GIRLS and contacted the sulky wheel when there was an easing of the pace near the 300m. Lay inwards near the 220m having to be straightened and then locked wheels with HACKSAW RIDGE momentarily near the 200m.

BETTOR WAY - broke passing the 400m losing all chance. Stewards spoke with driver K Butt regarding this incident who advised that she had shifted her runner wider on the track to avoid a weakening runner rounding the final bend and after doing so had then attempted to shift back down the track and follow the helmet of HAVTIMEWILLFLY, however BETTOR WAY had swung its off hind leg out making contact with the sulky wheel of DENY EVERYTHING which was racing to her outside, and broke in consequence. After hearing from Miss Butt and viewing the replays Stewards were satisfied with the explanation tendered and took no further action other than to place a warning on the racing record of BETTOR WAY and note the circumstances.

DA VINCI - broke at the start losing ground. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted during the running, trainer/driver C Ferguson advised that the gelding is best driven for one run and is not suited to working during the running. Mr Ferguson further explained that he shifted outwards near the 700m in an attempt to secure a trail into the race. However, when this did not eventuate, he was left to improve wide from the rear of the field rounding the final bend. He added that he was not overly disappointed with the performance, considering the closing sectionals. Stewards noted Mr Ferguson's comments.
