After viewing the replays driver M Williamson did not contest the protest and ALWAYS DREAMING was relegated to 4th placing by Stewards. The breast plate broke rounding the final bend. The gear was inspected by Stewards and found to be in previously good condition.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted during the running, trainer/driver C Ferguson advised that the gelding is best driven for one run and is not suited to working during the running. Mr Ferguson further explained that he shifted outwards near the 700m in an attempt to secure a trail into the race. However, when this did not eventuate, he was left to improve wide from the rear of the field rounding the final bend. He added that he was not overly disappointed with the performance, considering the closing sectionals. Stewards noted Mr Ferguson's comments.
