Raced over track markers and broke entering the first bend losing ground checking and hampering trailing runners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a laceration to the left front leg which was treated. Connections were advised ABULL was stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming. Junior driver D Anderson, assisted by senior driver C Ferguson, admitted a charge that he drove carelessly in the incident near the 80m when allowing his runner to shift ground inwards checking an inside runner. After viewing replays and considering penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Anderson's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 17 July 2025, 4 days.

FOREVER ARDEN - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being observed to have blood present in its mouth following the two false starts and was found to have a small cut on its lip being cleared to start. Held up final bend and early stages of the run home. Driver R McIlwrick was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted over the concluding stages of the run home when held up and electing not to take a run to his inside which became available inside the final 100 metres. Mr McIlwrick explained that his gelding had become worked up after the two false starts and having to undergo a veterinary examination. He added that he was hard on the back of MR PRESIDENT and was aware that there was room to his inside over the concluding stages however because the gelding was travelling so well in this position he was reluctant to attempt a shift inwards off Mr Barclay's helmet or activate the removable deafeners for safety reasons, due to being in such close proximity to the sulky of MR PRESIDENT. Stewards accepted and noted Mr McIlwrick's comments.

FOREVER ARDEN - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being observed to have blood present in its mouth following the two false starts and was found to have a small cut on its lip being cleared to start. Held up final bend and early stages of the run home. Driver R McIlwrick was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted over the concluding stages of the run home when held up and electing not to take a run to his inside which became available inside the final 100 metres. Mr McIlwrick explained that his gelding had become worked up after the two false starts and having to undergo a veterinary examination. He added that he was hard on the back of MR PRESIDENT and was aware that there was room to his inside over the concluding stages however because the gelding was travelling so well in this position he was reluctant to attempt a shift inwards off Mr Barclay's helmet or activate the removable deafeners for safety reasons, due to being in such close proximity to the sulky of MR PRESIDENT. Stewards accepted and noted Mr McIlwrick's comments.

SHERWOOD MAGGIE - raced wide early. Over-raced middle stages. Hampered by a weakening runner in the early and middle stages of the run home placing driver C Dalgety in some difficulty, resulting in the gelding striking the sulky wheel of FOREVER ARDEN. Stewards questioned junior driver C Dalgety regarding the tactics he adopted during the race, particularly near the 600m, when he allowed his runner to be covered by the sharply improving JENNY GUMP. Mr Dalgety explained that the mare was hanging on the right rein and that he was reluctant to shift three wide at that stage of the race, given the distance remaining to the winning post. Stewards noted Mr Dalgety's explanation and took into account the manner the runner had been driven at its most recent start.

When spoken to regarding the performance of a favoured runner trainer/driver N Williamson advised that the mare had become worked up prior to the start and he will be making gear changes in an effort to rectify this. Mr Williamson further stated that he elected not to shift ground near the 1000m when the opportunity existed as the runner he would have been following had been trotting roughly and he was concerned it may have broken as a consequence.
