MATAI LIZZIE - when questioned regarding the performance Driver W House advised that he had initially intended to go back from the wide draw but the mare had been too keen so he allowed her to roll forward. Mr House further advised that MATAI LIZZIE had then lay in and over-raced when outside the leader which had taken its toll.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards questioned driver K Green regarding the tactics she adopted in particular when challenging for the lead for a considerable distance through the middle stages before weakening rounding the final bend. After hearing from Ms Green Stewards adjourned the matter to give it further consideration.
