KATHERINE - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not having raced for a considerable period of time and was cleared to start.

KATHERINE - connections advised the mare has had its fetlocks treated since last racing.

KATHERINE - hampered near the 400m having to be steadied. Returned to the enclosure with blood present in the nasal area. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare not to be a bleeder.

ALL BY MYSELF - shifted sideways as the start was effected contacting the sulky of KATHERINE and broke in the early stages. Placed in restricted room by an outside runner near the 150m and again shortly after. Driver R May advised he did not activate the removable deafeners as a consequence.

DEFY ME - broke at the start losing ground. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts. Became awkwardly placed close to the sulky of HELIUM racing into the first bend after a slight easing of the pace and had to be shifted wider on the track. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation in the early stages.

WARLOCH - hampered in the early stages by HELIUM and locked sulky stays with that runner. Raced wide early.

HELIUM - over-raced early and middle stages causing driver R Harrison considerable difficulty. Shifted up the track when leading passing the 750m which allowed a trailing runner to improve to the inside. Lay inwards rounding the final bend when weakening crowding an inside runner. Junior driver R Harrison (assisted by trainer K Barron) was shown a replay of the manner she drove passing the 750m and advised to make a greater effort to ensure she does not allow her horse to shift wider on the track. In taking this course of action Stewards were mindful of the racing manners of the gelding and placed a warning on the racing record of the horse.

Stewards questioned driver S Tomlinson regarding her decision not to shift outwards near the 1200m to lead the one wide line when an opportunity existed. Miss Tomlinson advised the gelding races best with cover and she was reluctant to shift outwards at this stage to race in the parked position. After hearing from Miss Tomlinson, Stewards noted her comments.
