When questioned regarding the performance driver B Butt advised the mare had travelled well however was under pressure from the 1200m and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination revealed a high respiratory rate and mucous in the trachea. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.

BETTOR WAY - broke passing the 400m losing all chance. Stewards spoke with driver K Butt regarding this incident who advised that she had shifted her runner wider on the track to avoid a weakening runner rounding the final bend and after doing so had then attempted to shift back down the track and follow the helmet of HAVTIMEWILLFLY, however BETTOR WAY had swung its off hind leg out making contact with the sulky wheel of DENY EVERYTHING which was racing to her outside, and broke in consequence. After hearing from Miss Butt and viewing the replays Stewards were satisfied with the explanation tendered and took no further action other than to place a warning on the racing record of BETTOR WAY and note the circumstances.

RAKAMURPH - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to not having raced for a considerable period of time and was cleared to start. Weakened in the run home. When questioned regarding the performance driver N Williamson advised the gelding was not suited to the fast tempo of the race in what was its first performance for 12 months and in his opinion will derive considerable benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
