KELTIC TIGER - Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted by driver B. Williamson near the 800m when trailing a weakening runner. Mr. Williamson explained that the gelding had been under pressure to obtain the back of FORTY WIVES for some distance before the 900m mark. After securing this position, the gelding continued to race under pressure despite being behind a weakening runner. Mr. Williamson further stated that he elected to remain in for a short period in an attempt to encourage the gelding to race more competitively. However, upon shifting out to improve, the gelding was immediately under pressure again. After considering the circumstances, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr. Williamson's decision at the time was not unreasonable and determined that no further action was necessary.

MCKENDRICK - raced lethargically over the early stages before being retired from the event near the 1500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG prior to completing one satisfactory trial before resuming.

HI LIFE - locked wheels with DIDJASEEMIKI near the 1700m. Stewards questioned drivers R Harrison (HI LIFE) assisted by B Butt, R Close (DIDJASEEMIKI) and J Morrison (RADIOACTIVE JAFFA) regarding this incident. After viewing the replays and hearing from the drivers it was established that both Miss Harrison and Mr Close had shifted their runners simultaneously to the inside of RADIOACTIVE JAFFA which hung inwards resulting in HI LIFE and DIDJASEEMIKI locking wheels despite the efforts of their respective drivers with no further action deemed necessary. Held up early in the run home.

Stewards lodged a protest against 4th placing being awarded under Rule 859(2) alleging HI LIFE (R Harrison) started from the incorrect barrier position inside BLACKJACK at the restart despite having the opportunity to be in its correct position resulting in the horse gaining an advantage. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and junior driver R Harrison (assisted by G Smith) the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the protest. Miss Harrison admitted an associated charge in that she allowed HI LIFE to start from the incorrect position and the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $300.
