A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Mr Purdon further advised he will have blood tests taken from the mare. When questioned regarding the performance Driver M Purdon advised the mare is best suited when held up for one run so he elected to go back early from a wide draw. He added the strong tempo over the closing sectionals and the fact the mare had been laying in over the concluding stages had made it difficult to make up ground and was not disappointed with the effort.

TROUBLESHOOTER - broke near the 900m checking trailing runners. Stewards lodged a protest against 4th placing being awarded to TROUBLESHOOTER (R May) under Rule 869A(2) alleging interference to (TOKYO ROSE) (S Ottley) placed 5th, near the 900m. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from both drivers and Stewards, the Adjudicative Committee upheld the protest and TROUBLESHOOTER was relegated to 5th placing. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.

AMERICAN ME - over-raced early when being restrained to the rear. Continued to over-race middle stages. Raced wide from the 700m. When questioned regarding his tactics Junior Driver H Orange, assisted by S Phelan, advised he had elected to go back early from a wide draw given he expected SEACLUSION to go forward to lead. Mr Orange further advised he had attempted to improve passing the 1400m but was unable do so because MANTRA BLUE improved forward off him with KEVIN KLINE then shifting out to lead up the running line but not progressing forward as he expected. He also added the gelding hadn't handled the bends well but was nevertheless pleased with the effort given how the race was run.
