After viewing the replays driver G O'Reilly did not contest the protest and PLAYOFFS was relegated to 6th placing by Stewards.
MODE - broke at the start losing ground. Weakened in the run home. Authorisation of placings was withheld until Stewards had reviewed the replays and spoken to driver W House who confirmed he had not been denied a fair start.
STEELINTHEHEEL - placed in restricted room near the 1500m striking track markers. Weakened from the 1400m hampering a trailing runner and was retired from the race near the 1100m after breaking. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the mare.
SOLEMN SON - hung inwards through the early and middle stages and broke when racing over the crossing near the 1100m causing driver T Duley difficulty when attempting to shift the breaking runner up the track with trailing runners being hampered. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation during the running.
The start was delayed due firstly to THE MERC requiring farrier attention with the gelding racing without front plates and MILES AWAY requiring gear adjustments.
BANGKOK BETTY - checked and broke at the start losing considerable ground. Broke rounding the final bend losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
The start was delayed due to BARRYTOWN charging the barrier strand. Driver G Telfer defended a breach of Rule 858(1)(a) in that he anticipated the start causing a delay. After hearing evidence from Stewards, Starter R Donnelly, driver G Telfer and viewing the replays, the Adjudicative Committee upheld the charge and imposed a fine of $200.
A false start was declared after the barrier strand became entangled in the legs of BARRYTOWN after the gelding was fractious prior to the barrier being released. A warning was placed on the barrier record of BARRYTOWN.
KINGAROY - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Driver J Ford was issued a warning for using his whip outside the sulky confines in the run home.
SWITCH ON - broke in the early stages losing considerable ground. Trotted roughly at various stages before weakening from the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
SWITCH ON - hampered by a breaking runner passing the 2000m. Briefly placed in restricted room near the 100m after runners either side shifted ground simultaneously.
PEAKNMONKEY - hung inwards when weakening rounding the final bend. Stewards questioned Junior driver S Thornley, assisted by K Barron, regarding the manner he drove near the 350m when allowing his runner to shift ground outwards. Mr Thornley advised that at the time the horse was weakening and hanging when placed under pressure and he was concerned runners to his inside were in restricted room. After hearing his explanation and viewing the replays Stewards advised Mr Thornley not to leave his drives open to query in future.

Lost ground racing down the back the final time before weakening further from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
