Authorisation of 1st placing was withheld until driver G Smith (HEY BUD) placed 2nd, had viewed the replays and confirmed he did not wish to proceed with a protest.

Authorisation of 2nd placing was withheld until Stewards had spoken to drivers S Thornley (STAR ON THE ROCKS) and J Young-Grant (VERDUCCI) placed 6th and were satisfied that Mr Thornley's horse had shifted inwards as a result of being crowded. After viewing the replays Mrs Young-Grant elected not to proceed with a protest with placings being duly authorised.

DON JUAN - held up early in the run home. Driver T Duley advised she did not activate the removable deafeners as a result. Stewards questioned Miss Duley, assisted by Senior Driver Mr G Smith, regarding her decision to shift inwards at the 900m. Miss Duley explained that the horse is best driven for one run and after losing cover at the 1300m and racing in the open, she considered her best option was to shift inwards in search of cover, consistent with its preferred racing pattern. After considering her explanation and reviewing replays, Stewards accepted her decision at the 900m was not unreasonable and took the matter no further.

Driver M House defended a breach of Rule 869(4) and the Home Straight Regulations in that he failed to maintain a straight course in the run home resulting in DON JUAN being hampered. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and Mr House the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the charge.

DON JUAN - held up early in the run home. Contacted the sulky wheel of MOTOR MOUTH near the 250m. Junior driver T Duley (assisted by M Purvis) admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly when allowing her runner to contact the sulky wheel of MOTOR MOUTH near the 250m which punctured. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $250. Shifted outwards and locked wheels briefly with MOTOR MOUTH near the 50m. Miss Duley was warned to take greater care when activating gear.

Broke again passing the 800m after having been shifted wider on the track by ANN SOPHIE and lost ground before settling. Broke on a further occasion passing the 350m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. Driver P Ferguson reported the gelding had lost the near front shoe during the running. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormality.

When questioned regarding his decision to restrain racing down the back the first time and shift to the marker line Driver W House stated that in his opinion the mare would not have been suited to racing without cover so felt it was his best option to secure a trailing position. Mr House also advised that he had not activated the sliding blinds due to having been held up.
